In March 2022, he was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly for Margao constituency in Goa. On March 31, 2022, the Congress appointed him as a permanent invitee of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and in July 2022, it revoked his status as a “permanent invitee” of the CWC. On September 14, 2022, he left the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with 7 other Congress MPs.

On September 14, 2022, he once again joined the BJP along with 7 other Congress MPs in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, when some journalists reminded him When asked about the royal pledge he made at a temple and church in Goa, Kamath replied that it was God’s will. He said,
I went to the temple again to ask God what to do. God told me to do what is best for you. ”

He was awarded the COSAMB Award and the Bakshi Bahadur Jivabadada Kerkar State Award three times between 1994 and 1996 for his outstanding performance in the field of sports. Under the guidance of Digambar Kamat, Goa won the Golden Shield award at the All India National Championships from 1979 to 1987 at the Agricultural Commodity Classification level competition.
