Are MAFS marriages legally binding?
Marriages are not legally binding because there is no marriage license.
The show’s synopsis on Channel 4’s website reads: “Following the Australian format, instead of legal marriages, couples will make lifelong vows to each other in a glamorous ceremony, overseen by a wedding celebrant, that includes guests, bridal gowns, dancing, speeches and cake.”

This also applies to the Australian version of the show as a spokesperson for the Nine Network told the Australian online publication Now for the love: “In accordance with the Australian Marriage Act (1961) which requires one month and one day’s notice, the legal marriage has not been solemnized.”

At the end of the experiment, they were given the option to continue the relationship. or go their separate ways.”
However, across the pond in the American series, the contestants do get married.
Executive producer MAFS USsaid Chris Coelen Wrap yes, unlike the UK version, the contestants sign the marriage license after the ceremony is filmed.

“There’s a prenuptial agreement that’s built in. It’s a very short, short prenuptial agreement. It basically says what they want [the marriage with]what they get out of the marriage with,” he explained.
“We want to give them some protection as they come in. If for some reason it doesn’t work out, at least you’re protected by this basic form. You won’t get into any legal trouble. Once they’re married, it’s completely up to them.”
