Dodgers’ Tyler Glasnow Met His Girlfriend by Throwing a Ball with His Number to Her in the Stands: ‘Text Me’

Tyler Glasnow and Meghan Murphy’s love story is a story of eternity.

During the Dodgers game broadcast on Friday, May 10, announcer Joe Davis revealed the sweet but surprising way the 30-year-old pitcher met Murphy while playing for the Tampa Bay Rays.

According to Davis, Glasnow was pitching for Tampa Bay when he saw Murphy in the stands during the 2021 game.

“At the ballpark, when he was pitching for the Rays, he said he noticed her in the distance and said, ‘She looks cute,’ so he had the team photographer zoom in on her,” Davis explained.

“So he took the ball and wrote his phone number on it, threw it to her and said, ‘Text me.’ and he did, and the rest is history,” Davis said.

Before finishing his story, Davis said Glasnow told his girlfriend that it was “the first time he ever threw a ball to a girl with his number,” adding jokingly, “He said she didn’t trust him.”

The Dodgers lost to the San Diego Padres 2-1 during Friday’s game, but the sweet story of Glasnow’s relationship quickly caught the attention of baseball fans on social media.

One user joked: “The balls will show up at the bar with a bucket full of balls with their number on them.”

Glasnow previously spoke about meeting Murphy during an interview with Los Angeles Times. “I saw a girl that was kind of cute, so I had our team photographer zoom in on her — this just sounds really weird — but she was healthy, with a girl-next-door look,” Glasnow explained of Murphy.

He recalled: “So I wrote my phone number on the ball, threw it to her and told her to text me. She came to the next game, threw me a ball with her number on it and told me to send her a message.”

Glasnow said he “didn’t think anything would come of” the chance interaction until they later met. “But then I met her and she was great,” the pitcher said.

Of Murphy, Glasnow said, “She has a really good personality, loves to travel and is really fun, so it’s super easy.”

Before being traded to the Dodgers in December, Glasnow played five seasons with the Rays. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB in 2016.
