Santa Claus — we mean Dolly Parton — is coming to town!
In the latest cover Good housekeeping UKParton told how she celebrates her favorite holiday, Christmas. She admitted to the post that she’s going “over the top,” meaning she’s finding her way down the chimney in true Santa fashion.
“Every year I play Santa – I put on my Santa suit and go down the chimney with a sack full of presents,” she explained. “Even though a lot of kids are grown now, they still expect me to do it. One day I’ll be limping in that elevator!”
The 78-year-old has no children of her own with longtime husband Carl Thomas Dean, but finds joy in spreading love to others. “Now that I’m older, I realize that I didn’t have children of my own, so anyone’s children could have been mine,” Parton said in her 2018 PEOPLE cover interview. “I [want to] empower children and instill confidence in them.”

While the inside of her home is a winter wonderland, she decides to keep the outside of her home a little more subtle. “Tourists come around and look at my house from the outside, so for their sake, it’s a little less sticky on the outside, but inside I can glue however I want!” joke with Good housekeeping UK. “I have Christmas trees in all the rooms, everything has lights on – and then we add more lights, and more lights. I change all the decor – dishcloths and curtains.”
And the obsession can be seen even in the choice of clothes. “I have Christmas lights in my hair – I have them everywhere,” she reveals. “I wear earrings that light up, a reindeer necklace that lights up, I wear sweaters with Christmas lights on – you press a button and I light up!”

Parton’s Christmas outfit is no secret. In 2023, she shared an Instagram post about her holiday ‘fits over the years’ with the caption, “I’m always in costume for Christmas.” In his book, he also details his love for extravagant fashion Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones. According to an interview with The GuardianParton was inspired by the “urban bum”.
“She was flamboyant,” the “Jolene” singer told the paper. “She had bright red lipstick, long red nails. She had high heels, little floating plastic goldfish in the heels, short skirts, plunging tank tops, and I just thought she was beautiful.”

Recently, Parton donated $1 million to Hurricane Helene relief efforts after her home state of Tennessee was one of the affected states. The donation was made in cooperation with local companies and Walmart. “I really, really wish we were all together for another reason, but we’ve all seen the devastation,” Parton said at the press conference.
“I mean, who knew that in our little part of the country, where I was born and raised, we would experience this kind of devastation?” Parton continued. “I look around and think: These are my mountains. These are my valleys. These are my rivers that flow like streams. These are my people. These rainbow-colored mountains. These are my people and this is my home.”
