Stella Parton looks after her sister Dolly Parton.
The singer-songwriter, 47, addressed the online criticism her sister received after she wore a replica Dallas Cowboys cheerleader uniform during a performance at The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show during the Dallas Cowboys’ game against the Washington Commanders.
The ensemble — which included a white vest with blue stars, a blue crop top with a bare chest, white shorts and a glittering piece of fishnet covering Dolly’s body with crystal stars — as the headlines, some praising 77-year-old singer for outfit and others examination should she have worn clothes at her age.
In response to criticism, Stella wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Personally, I thought my older sister Dolly was cute as hell in her Dallas Cowboys cheerleader costume at the Thanksgiving halftime show.”

“To those of you who are so critical of a 77-year-old kicking up her heels, I say to… you. Shame on you, not her,” she added.

She wasn’t the only one who stood up for Dolly. On Monday, View Co-host Whoopi Goldberg, 68, also responded to people who criticized the country superstar’s attire.
“Apparently my turkey wasn’t the only thing on the internet that people hated,” she began on the show, talking about the negative comments she received for making her Thanksgiving dinner without gloves. “Dolly Parton stole the show on Thanksgiving Day at the Cowboys/Commanders game dressed as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, but some critics said she was acting her age.”
“Bite me,” Goldberg said.

Goldberg’s co-host Sunny Hostin, 55, remarked, “If I looked like that in one of those Cowboy things, I might have gone all out.”
She also said while pointing to a picture from Parton’s performance, “I don’t know if it’s a belly ring or what, but I want what she has.”
Parton opened the halftime performance with her favorite song “Jolene” and later moved on to another classic, “9 to 5.” She also performed her cover of Queen’s “We Are the Champions.”

“Those red teapots have long been a symbol of hope for our friends and neighbors facing hard times,” she said at the time. “My goal is to encourage everyone who can to donate and support their neighbors in need. Every small act of generosity helps and together we can love our neighbors this holiday season and beyond.”
