When asked on BBC Radio 4’s Today show about whether he was worried about the royal family’s reaction to his portrayal of King Charles in the Netflix drama, the 54-year-old actor shared that he was affected not only by the royal family’s reaction, but everyone else’s.
“I am worried about all the reactions. You know, I read all the reviews and I spent two days in bed,” West admitted. “So I’m a sensitive soul. I worry about what people think.”

He also revealed that while he was initially “reluctant to accept” the role of Charles, he eventually “loved” the role and working on the show.
“You don’t turn down a Peter Morgan script that easily. He’s such a great writer and it’s such a great show and I love being a part of it,” West said.
“I loved wearing clothes. I loved driving cars and I loved people bowing to me. It’s an absolutely wonderful feeling. I miss him,” he said with a laugh.

West, who has portrayed Charles since Season 5 of the drama inspired by the lives of the British royal family, told PEOPLE last month that his role on the Netflix series changed his perception of the royal family.
“I guess someone’s perception is so dictated by what you read in the media and what you see in their public persona that the work of trying to find out what’s going on privately and what’s going on in their heads and what’s going on in their private conversations,” West said. about the task as an actor.

The cast Crown famously changed every two seasons to reflect the aging of the royal family during the decades of Queen Elizabeth’s reign, and West closed the role of then-Prince Charles, which Josh O’Connor began in Season 3 and continued in Season 4.
He added that he thinks the “big emotional scenes” — which he described as “beautiful for an actor” — were the ones he was most worried about while filming the sixth season, particularly the scene in the Paris hospital where Charles “repents” about the death of Princess Diana.
“I read that and thought, ‘What a famously buttoned-up family, a famously unemotional family, what are they like in moments of great emotion when something deeply traumatic happens?’ I was very worried about that, and then of course the day comes when you do it and you act, you look at Diana’s body and what you have is a cross on the map, that’s what I have to look at. Those scenes are difficult,” he said. “And I guess they were the ones I worried about the most.”
