News about Doug Burgum
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum announced his entry into the Republican presidential race Wednesday, positioning himself as a candidate with “small-town values” who can help change the course of the nation.
During his campaign opening speech in Fargo, Burgum said, “We need a leader who understands the real work Americans do every day, someone who has worked alongside our farmers or ranchers and our small business owners.” “Someone who has worked in jobs where the shower comes at the end of the day, not the beginning.”
Burgum, 66, is the latest candidate to join a growing Republican field full of candidates trying to establish themselves as the most attractive challenger to the frontrunner, former President Donald Trump.

Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, is Trump’s biggest opponent, according to early polls. Others, however, were not persuaded by the DeSantis campaign to resign.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie kicked off his campaign Tuesday night in New Hampshire. Former Vice President Mike Pence was scheduled to kick off his campaign the next day in Iowa.
Burgum continued: “We need a leader who has seen firsthand how our innovators and entrepreneurs can grow and how each person can grow and succeed. “We need a leader who is firmly committed to the three areas of national security, energy and the economy. And so today I officially declare that I am running for President of the United States.
Burgum, a former businessman who years ago helped Microsoft pay $1.1 billion for a small software company, starts out as a big shot in a crowded primary. The specific electoral and financial levels, which could be difficult for someone so unknown outside of North Dakota, are part of the Republican National Committee’s latest list of requirements to participate in the first presidential debate in August. Burgum, who is the only other incumbent governor running but with a much lower profile than DeSantis, received 1% national support in a CNN poll conducted last month.
Billionaire Burgum said in an interview with NBC News last month that he would contribute his personal funds to the campaign, though he did not specify how much.
Burgum, who also sponsored his own gubernatorial campaigns, said at the time, “I’ve always had my own skin on the game.”
After making his statement, Burgum mingled with the crowd for more than 30 minutes as Ben Gallaher’s country song “Every Small Town,” which includes the line “We’re the underdog,” played continuously.
Burgum intends to focus on the economy, energy and national security, classic concerns of the business-oriented GOP even before Trump. Staying out of the cultural battles that Trump and DeSantis have embraced, he sees a future for himself.

In a video announcing his candidacy earlier this week, Burgum declared, “You woke up at 5 in the morning to start your day,” alluding to DeSantis’s epithet for people who promote equality and inclusion.
Later in the film, Burgum said, “Anger, yelling, infighting, that’s not going to work anymore.” “Let’s get the job done. In North Dakota, we talk things through and listen with respect. With this, we can get America back on track.”
