Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel have their number one fan in Drew Scott.
The Property Brothers star, 45, told PEOPLE exclusively at the A Sense of Home party in Los Angeles on Saturday night that his brother and his new fiancée “treat each other well” — and that’s a big part of what makes their relationship so successful.
“I think it’s how much they care about each other. Big things and little things,” Drew added of Jonathan and Deschanel’s relationship, which began in 2019 after they met on Karaoke in a carpool.
“They treat each other with respect and really love each other,” he continued. “I’ve seen a lot of relationships in the past where you don’t realize it, and you really see it with these two.”

As for how his brother has adjusted to life as a father to Deschanel’s two children — daughter Elsie, 7, and son Charlie, 5, who he shares with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik — Drew says, “They’re so good together.”
“Jonathan, he’s become an insta-dad with the kids,” he continued, adding, “It’s really great to see another side of him.”

Drew also described how he felt when his brother popped the question, saying he and his wife Linda Phan were “counting down the days” until Jonathan could ask Deschanel, 43, to marry him.
“We’re so happy,” Drew said at a gala for A Sense of Home — an organization that aims to “prevent homelessness by creating first homes for youth aging out of foster care with donated furniture and household goods,” according to its website. “They are so good together.”
As wedding planning begins, he said, however, that he is not sure if he will stand by his brother at the altar.
“We’ll see, it’s up to him,” Drew teased about the possibility of being best man. “I’m a guy who has no pressure. If he wants to run away and do his own thing, fine. Whatever they want, I’m good.”

Jonathan and Deschanel opened up about their dream engagement in August, which took place at Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, in a cover story for PEOPLE.
The exciting moment began with a guitarist hired by Jonathan to play Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” — a move that caused confusion among New girl actress.
“So when it started happening, Zooey, all of a sudden… You saw this, ‘What’s going on?’ Scott recalled.
“Someone magically took the kids from the other side of where the band was, and I was like, ‘Something’s going on,'” she told PEOPLE, adding that she wasn’t sure what was going on until her kids came back with “a banner on which read: ‘Zooey, will you marry me?’ ”

Despite having a role in the engagement, Deschanel said her children were confused. Her daughter read the sign and asked on the spot if the two had just gotten married.
“And we’re like, ‘Well, no, not yet, but we’re engaged.’ And she says: ‘Does that mean I’m going to become a flower girl?’ And we’re like, ‘Yeah. Yeah, you can,'” the star said. “So it was really sweet to have them there as well.”
Deschanel added of the proposal, “It was so special.”
