Thousands of pounds of Don Miguel frozen burritos have been recalled due to possible listeria contamination.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced in a statement that approximately 10,642 lbs. frozen ready-to-eat products for carne asada burritos have been recalled.
According to the release, the food items were manufactured on September 27, 2023, and their wax paper packages contain a printed date code of “D23270” as well as an establishment number of “EST. 20049” inside the USDA inspection mark.
These carne asada burrito items were shipped to stores nationwide, according to the release.

The need for the recall was determined after laboratory testing determined that the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria that causes Listeriosis.
The infection can cause side effects including fever, muscle aches, headache and diarrhea, among others, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
There are currently no confirmed reports of adverse reactions to Don Miguel products, according to the FSIS statement.
Consumers who purchased these affected products should not consume them and should instead throw them away or return the items to where they were purchased.
