From “Dulupadi” to “Dupadi”
In an interview, Droupadi Murmu spoke about her name, which has been changed several times. According to Droupadi Murmu, she was named ‘Durgi’ after her grandmother. She was affectionately called “Batti” by her family and sometimes “Putty.” However, her school teachers disliked the name “Durgi” and combined it with “Puti” to create the name Droupadi, a popular character from the Indian epic Mahabharata. According to Murmu, during her school and college days, her last name was “Tudu” and after her marriage to Shyam Charan Murmu, she started using the title “Murmu”.
