Dwayne Johnson Says Multiple Parties Asked Him to Run for President Last Year: ‘It Was All Very Surreal’

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has long flirted with the idea of ​​running for president — but when he was approached by multiple parties last year about launching a bid for the White House, the reality that he could become commander in chief seemed to take him by surprise.

In the opening episode of Trevor Noah’s new podcast, What now? with Trevor Noahformer Daily show host asked Johnson, 51, about a 2021 poll that found 46% of American adults would support him as the presidential nominee.

“It was all very surreal because that was never my goal. My goal was never to be in politics,” he continued. “Actually, there’s a lot I hate about politics.”

Through conversations with party officials, Johnson said, he began to think about his three daughters — ages 5, 7 and 22 — and how running for office would risk putting family time on the back burner.
