E. Ramdoss is an Indian director, writer and actor, primarily in the Tamil film industry. He came into limelight after playing the role of Velraj in the Tamil film Vikram Vedha.

E. Ramdoss was born in 1957 in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu (age 66 at the time of death). Soon after completing his education, he enrolled in the Madrasa at Vaniyabhadi in Tamil Nadu. According to Ramdoss, he has been obsessed with watching movies since he was a child. After completing his postgraduate degree, he moved to Chennai to pursue a career in Tamil films. In an interview, he talked about his film career and said that his friends and school teachers suggested that he pursue a film career. Ramdos said,

When you see a girl while studying in school, you get anxious. That’s how I thought about it. I wrote a letter and sent it to the school. I don’t know if it will go to the principal. Shouldn’t I be the book you hold in your arms? The book I wrote was given to the principal. He called me and complimented me on my lines. When I shared this with friends, they said, ‘This is good… you should try it in the cinema. ‘

Profession

as a screenwriter

Ramadoss began his screenwriting career soon after moving to Chennai, and his first film was Enakkaga Kaathiru (1981), a Tamil drama starring Suman and Sumalatha Movie. Later, in the late 1990s, Ramdoss worked as a screenwriter for several Tamil films such as Raja Muthirai (1995), Dhinamum Ennai Gavani (1997), Harikrishnans and Anthahpuram (1999).

In 1986, he made his debut with the Tamil film “Aayiram Pookkal Malarattum”. Ramadoss subsequently worked as a director in many Tamil films such as “Ravanan” (1986), “Vaazhga Jananayagam” (1996) and “Suyamvaram” (1999). In an interview, Ramdoss talked about his career as a director and explained how he got the opportunity to direct a film. He said,

I didn’t ask Manivannan for a job. The tower will not tilt, but dubbing will occur. Manopala goes to see him. I went too. I used to sit down and correct it. Manivannan looked at me like he was saying “Yala… Ivan”. Manivannan allowed me to be a person who respects it because I am an educated person, Manobala said, “This is our fear”. In 2004, Ramdoss began her acting career. In 2004, he had a small role in the Tamil film Vasool Raja MBBS, playing the role of a ward boy.

  • Ramdoss spoke about his love for poetry in an interview and said that while pursuing his postgraduate degree at the Madrassah College in Vaniyabhadi, Tamil Nadu, he often recited poetry at various cultural events at the college. While discussing the same issue, Ramdus said,

    Next I went to Kaweiko Academy. The poet came to them, sat with them, listened, watched and fell in love with writing. I completed my degree and joined Direct Cinema. I don’t know anyone here. Well, I decided we would direct it ourselves. Manobala said, ‘You have to go from assistant to director.’ I asked Manobala, ‘Okay, add one more person. ‘”
