Moloya Goswami was born on Tuesday, February 9, 1954 (age 68; as of 2022) in Dibrugarh, Assam and grew up in Nagaon. Moloya’s father had a transferable job so he often moved from one city to another, but Moloya and her sister had to stay in Nagaon because of their studies. She attended Nagaon Basic School and graduated from Handique Girls College. She completed her postgraduate studies from Guwahati University. During his undergraduate years, Moloa was a very active student. She said in an interview,

Although I was a mediocre student, I was well-liked by my teachers. Recently, I went to Nagaon to attend a conference there and when my teachers noticed me there, they hugged me very lovingly. She was also selected as a member of Assam’s first women’s hockey team. After completing her master’s degree, she decided to become a teacher and joined Sonali College. In 1983, she began teaching at Judge Rod College.

Moloya started her acting career in 1985. Moloya’s wife Pradip Goswami is said to have encouraged her to pursue a career in Assamese films.
