Movie
In 2023, Elena made her Bollywood debut with the film “Kerala Story”, in which she played the role of “Husn”. The film focuses on the controversial topic of love jihad, involving the conversion of women from Kerala to Islam and their alleged abduction to Syria controlled by the Islamic State at the height of its power.
In November 2022, director Sudipto Sen released the trailer of the movie “Kerala Story”, claiming that about 32,000 girls converted to Islam and forcibly joined the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Syria and Afghanistan. The trailer faced backlash for allegedly depicting the country as a center of Islamic terrorism. Tamil Nadu journalist BR Arvindakshan filed a complaint seeking a ban on the film unless the director confirmed the facts. He believed the film could undermine peace, unity and integrity and cause tension in the community. A case was registered under Section 153 A and B of the Indian Penal Code, which relates to inciting disharmony and enmity between religious groups. However, Sen said at the press conference that the film itself will address all questions and concerns after its release, and he will further confirm other issues later.
