Elton John opens up about his children’s famous godmother.
While appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert On Tuesday, Dec. 17, the “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” singer, 77, was asked whether or not he sang to his two sons — Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, who he shares with husband David Furnish — when they were younger.
“We sang them to sleep. We read them stories every night, even when they couldn’t understand what we were saying. It was a ritual that we held them,” he said.
“Gaga, who is their godmother, used to come bathe them and sing to them in bed,” said John about singer Lady Gaga (38).

Last week, John spoke openly about how he wants to be remembered when he dies, which included a sweet nod to his two children.
As he was honored as TIMEThe icon of the year, the singer reflected on fatherhood and how the role of a father is the most important to him.
“All I want to say on my tombstone is, ‘He was a great father,'” John told the paper while speaking with his wife.

The musician shared a similar sentiment in a conversation with Good morning AmericaRobin Roberts in an interview on December 11.
“My music speaks for itself,” he said. “My legacy is that I was a great husband and an even better father… Music, career are fantastic.”
“It was fantastic, revolutionary. But the most important thing in my life is to make sure that my children are happy, that they have a wonderful life and that I was good to them. That’s all that counts,” he added.
