Elton John returned to the red carpet for the first time since revealing he was “dealing with a severe eye infection” that was affecting his vision.
On Friday, September 6, just days after sharing his health news with fans, the music icon, 77, hit the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival with husband David Furnish.
To mark the world premiere of John’s documentary Elton John: It’s never too latethe longtime couple wore complementary looks, with the singer donning shades of dark maroon — including his signature shades — and co-director Furnish, 61, wearing a plum tuxedo.

John first shared his health condition three days before his TIFF outing.
The “Tiny Dancer” singer announced the news in an Instagram post on Sept. 3, revealing that he now has “limited vision” and assuring fans that he is doing well as he recovers.
“Over the summer I dealt with a severe eye infection that unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he wrote in the post. “I’m getting better, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time for vision to return to the affected eye.”

The five-time Grammy winner added that he is “so grateful for the wonderful team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me these past few weeks.”
“I spent the summer quietly recovering at home and I feel positive about the progress I have made so far in my recovery and treatment,” he concluded.

At TIFF, the “Rocket Man” singer celebrated the premiere of It’s never too latewhich Furnish co-directed with RJ Cutler.
From his iconic show at Madison Square Garden in 1974 to his final show at Dodger Stadium in 2022, the film follows John as he reflects on the early days of his decades-long career as he prepares to perform his final North American show.
In the documentary, “Elton takes us back in time and recounts the incredible highs and heartbreaking lows of his early years and how he overcame adversity, abuse and addiction to become the icon he is today,” the press release reads.
