Jason Isaacs has been clean for 23 years. He began his abstinence in 1998 and has maintained it ever since. But that was not the only achievement. His wife, Emma Hewitt, had a significant influence on his well-being and who he is today. Isaacs has stated this on several occasions and often expresses gratitude for her presence.

Isaacs started drinking when he was 12 years old. His first drunken experience was not a good one; he drank with a 14-year-old companion at a wedding, threw up, kissed the girl, tripped, fell and “broke” [his] an open skull on the pavement”, with blood all over his clothes. Despite the horror, he found something attractive in the event. So he continued his practice. He continued to do so for another 20 years before finally stopping. Isaacs met his wife at the Central School of Speech and Drama, and they married in 1987. While struggling with drug addiction, he took her on the road with him.
He was with his girlfriend for almost 10 years until he finally accepted full sobriety on October 5, 1998. She stayed by his side while he went about his business, usually beside himself. When he got clean, Hewitt asked if they could get a home, have kids and move on with their lives. Isaacs was amazed that she still wanted to be with him. “I just met you. What are you talking about?” Isaacs informed Hewitt. He felt like he was reborn and wanted to reconnect with her. “We’ll have to see how we get along. If we like each other’s company. You never got a straight answer from me,” he said. to her. And, although he feared it would end their relationship, Hewitt agreed. He then asked why. In a 2004 interview, the actor said they weren’t married, but called themselves husband and wife because they didn’t want others to think they were weird. Nevertheless, he proposed to her, and she accepted. But every time they planned the wedding, he got a job that had to be rescheduled. Lily (born 2002) and Ruby (born 2004) are the couple’s two children (born 2005). Isaacs said in the same 2004 interview that he wished he had had children earlier. He thought that having a family was the most satisfying thing he had ever done “by far” and that parenthood had changed him for the better.
