John Piper was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to parents Bill and Ruth Piper. His birthday is January 11, 1946. Since his father was also the founder of the church and an itinerant missionary, the apple fell not far from the tree. He was born to his older sister Beverly. His family moved from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Greenville, South Carolina when they were both children. John Piper was only six years old when he was saved.
Wade Hampton High School is his alma mater. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Wheaton College, majoring in literature and majoring in philosophy. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California.
