Emma Stone and Her Poor Things Director Yorgos Lanthimos in Talks to Team Up for a Fourth Film

Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos are on a winning streak and show no signs of stopping.

Stone, star and producer Poor peoplehe is reportedly now in negotiations to sign another collaboration with the director of that film: Save the green planet!Lanthimos’ remake of the 2003 South Korean comedy.

According to Diversity, the Greek filmmaker, 50, is set to begin filming this summer in the UK and New York. Stone, 35, “would most likely play a supporting role,” according to a report from the house.

His story “revolves around a disillusioned young man who captures and tortures a businessman he believes is part of an alien invasion,” according to Diversity. “What ensues is a battle of spirits between the kidnapper, his devoted girlfriend, the businessman and the private detective.”

Poor people marked the second collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos, who previously worked on 2018’s Favorite. Save the green planet! will be their fourth feature film together, after the upcoming one Kinds of Courtesy, anthology film starring Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn and more. Stone-Lanthimos’ growing list of projects also includes a silent short in 2022. Bleat.

At the 2023 New York Film Festival screening of the short, the recent BAFTA winner joked to the crowd that all of Lanthimos’ films, including The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Lobster, explore themes related to sex, death and goats. “It’s, like, non-stop, every day. He calls me and says: ‘Goats – what do you think? Death?’ ”

Original Save the green planet!, starring Shin Ha-kyun, won multiple awards in 2003 at film festivals around the world. 2020. CJ ENM — the studio behind it Parasite and other hit Korean films — teamed up with Midsommar directors Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen are producing the English-language remake, according to Deadline. Jang Joon-hwan, who directed the original film, has been named as the director.

On Monday, Diversity announced that Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe will produce the film alongside CJ ENM and Aster’s production company Square Peg, with Lanthimos in the director’s chair.

Poor people, adapted by Tony McNamara from Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel, Stone stars as Bella Baxter, a woman brought to life by the brain of her unborn child. It stars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael and Christopher Abbott.

At the upcoming 96th Academy Awards, Poor people it was nominated in 11 categories, including Best Picture, Stone for Best Actress and Lanthimos for Best Director.

When accepting the Golden Globe in January, Stone thanked her frequent collaborator. “Yorgos, I don’t know what I could say to you, and I haven’t already said it, but I will be forever grateful that we met, forever,” she said.

The premiere of the film at the Venice Film Festival Poor peopleLanthimos discussed pushing the envelope with La la country actress as his producer-star. “You can understand that there is a shorthand [between us] and we can communicate without having to explain or talk about things too much,” he said of their creative partnership.

Stone’s list of upcoming projects also includes Cruella 2sequel to her 2021 Disney film.
