Engineer Surprises Girlfriend with Custom Stanley Handle That Holds Her Chapstick — and TikTok Is Obsessed

  • Carmela’s little daily problem — finding an easily accessible spot for her wand where it won’t fall or roll away — was noticed by her boyfriend, Jordan
  • Jordan, an engineer, made her a handle to replace the one that came with her glass, complete with a slot for her wand
  • Sharing the cute gesture on TikTok led the couple to go viral

A cute gift from a boyfriend to his girlfriend has caught the attention of TikTok in a big way.

Carmela, who goes by the name @carmelaandthebeast on TikTok, shared scenes from the sweet process of her boyfriend Jordan, who works as an engineer, making her a custom handle for her glass that holds her wand.

“It’s a running joke that my wand always rolls off the nightstand into the trash. Also, I would always lose my wand at work because my exfoliating pockets are small,” Carmela tells PEOPLE.

“When he noticed that the handle could be removed, he started thinking about making a handle that could hold the wand. He immediately went into engineering design mode and that’s how my video was born.”

The 3D printed handle replaces the existing handle on the cup, which can be removed. The couple tried it on Stanley and Simple Modern glasses.

“We’ve noticed that a lot of people are confused about how it works. I was also surprised that the handle can be unscrewed. This handle that we designed replaces your current cup handle,” she explains.

“You stick the stick in from the top, and then it slides out. It only comes out if your glass is turned upside down, but then the water will spill,” he laughs.

The pair continued to work on the design, with Jordan tweaking it and Carmela testing it for everyday usability.

“We went through three versions and a fourth in the design process,” she shares. “It took him a few weeks to get the right design he wanted. We wanted to make sure it was sturdy but still comfortable in your hands.”

Meanwhile, Carmela’s video of Jordan working on the first version has gone viral, something the couple really didn’t expect.

“I looked at it and it had under 10,000 views. We went to see a movie, and when I looked at my phone afterwards, it had almost a million,” she shares.

To date, the original video has more than 14 million views. Commenters were obsessed with the idea and encouraged the couple to start selling them.

After a few days, the number of views was in the millions, and brands like Microsoft and La Roche Posay commented on the great design.

The couple doesn’t take any of it too seriously; they have fun creating fake infomercials for a product online. The couple is excited to see where their invention and TikTok will take them next.
