Eric André Has a Mid-Flight Emergency in Drumstick’s Super Bowl Commercial (Exclusive)

Eric André and Drumstick know what people want.

The actor and comedian, 40, stars in the ice cream brand’s first Super Bowl commercial, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal. André and Drumstick also work together to make the Monday after Super Bowl Sunday a national holiday.

“This partnership with Drumstick is especially cool because not only do they have this great ad (starring yours truly), but they’re encouraging fans to sign a petition to make the day after the game a public holiday for some unexpected, wacky fun – thinking it’s #DrumstickMonday” , André tells PEOPLE.

“We all deserve this day,” he adds. “I leave it to Drumstick for taking matters into his own hands. Time to make #DrumstickMonday a national holiday once and for all.”

The change.org petition is close to reaching its goal of 5,000 signatures.

In the ad, which will air during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers game on February 11, André plays a passenger who experiences stomach pains while on a plane.

As the flight attendant uses the overhead speaker system to call for a doctor to help André, Drumstick’s mascot, Dr. Umstick, offers help through a board-certified physician sitting nearby on the plane.

Appearing next to André on the flight, Dr. Umstick pulls out his medicine bag containing various branded ice cream treats. When André asks the fictional character if he’s “going to be okay,” Dr. Umstick replies, “I have no idea. I’m not a body doctor.”

Various passengers are then shown enjoying drumstick snacks — with one even exclaiming, “It’s so good!” — while André writhes in pain.

André, who calls himself a “big football guy” and notes that he’s a Miami Dolphins fan, says it was an honor to star in Drumstick’s inaugural Super Bowl commercial, because he’s “been a fan since I was a kid.”

“Acting alongside Dr. Umstick was an experience for the books,” he says. “Crazy times we shared, but what happens on set, stays on set.”

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will face off in Super Bowl LVIII, which will air on CBS on February 11th at 6:30pm ET.
