Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart’s Children: All About Daughters Billie and Georgia

Actor Eric Dane is head over heels in love with his two children, Billie Beatrice Dane and Georgia Geraldine Dane.

The Grey’s Anatomy star became a dad for the first time when he welcomed older daughter Billie with his now estranged wife Rebecca Gayheart in March 2010. They completed their family in December 2011 with the birth of Georgia.

“I never had a family, and now I do,” Eric told PEOPLE of his girlfriends. “I know I’m a very lucky guy.”

Unfortunately, that family ran into difficulties: in 2018, Gayheart filed for divorce from her longtime partner, citing irreconcilable differences.

“After 14 years together, we have decided that ending our marriage is the best decision for our family,” Eric said in a statement to PEOPLE. “We will continue our friendship and work as a team to parent our two beautiful girls because they are the most important thing in the world to us.”

At that time, Gayheart requested joint legal and physical custody of their children.

Although they haven’t completed the legal divorce process, the actors have been separated since 2018 — and have become adept at co-parenting.

“There’s a new normal for me and my family … it took us a little bit to get it down,” Gayheart told PEOPLE in 2019. “We’re friends and we’re doing our best to be parents and support a family.”

As proof of the success of their partnership, the duo traveled together to Europe in 2022. “This is us, family vacation 2022. 🇫🇷🥳❣️,” wrote Gayheart alongside a series of photos of her ex and their children.

Eric and Gayheart welcomed their first child together, daughter Billie Beatrice Dane, on March 3, 2010.

Before her birth, the couple revealed in September 2009 that they were starting a family. Once upon a time… in Hollywood actress showed off her baby bump during the walk, and a source told PEOPLE that they’re “definitely happy” to be pregnant because they’ve been “trying for so long.”

Eric shared his plans for the delivery room in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in February 2010, a month before their child arrived. “I’ll be in the room,” he said. “I’m going to stay close to my wife and make sure she’s okay. I’m really excited. I’m also really interested.”

He joked that the name they chose for their daughter would be “right in the middle” between weird and traditional.

Shortly after Billie was born, her name was announced, and years later, Eric shared how they chose the moniker on Harry Connick Jr.’s talk show in 2016.”[Billie’s] named after my father. … Whether it’s a boy or a girl, the firstborn will be Billie,” he said.

From the beginning, Billie was a total ham. “She knows how to steal the spotlight,” the actress told PEOPLE in 2012, adding that it’s something she gets “from her dad.”

“She’s a spitter,” Gayheart added of the then 2 1/2-year-old. “We call her my lively, challenging child because she’s just full of fire … Everyone thinks she’s 4 … holds full conversations and takes over her preschool.”

That passion for the spotlight only continued to grow: Billie is now a model and dancer.

“Congratulations Billie on a GORGEOUS dance showcase today #proudmom,” Gayheart captioned a post on her daughter’s Instagram Stories holding flowers in December 2021.

Also, in front of the cameras, Billie occasionally appears on the red carpet with both parents. In 2022, she attended the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Brentwood, California, where Billie accompanied her mom. Two years later, Billie attended Bad Boys: Ride or Die premiered in support of his father, who was part of the cast.

When it comes to supporting their dad, Billie and her sister watched “every episode” Grey’s Anatomyin which the actor starred from seasons 3 to 9. “They watched everything,” he said on Living with Kelly and Mark 2024, adding that they will “never” stream Euphoria.

Recently, in honor of Billie’s 14th birthday, Gayheart took to Instagram to share what she admires most about their daughter, along with various family photos.

“Darling, you are wise beyond your years, your heart is huge, you are so FUN! Your sense of humor is unmatched,” the actress wrote. “You are a gifted ballerina 🩰 my love. You are a loyal friend, which is rare at 14 years old, you are an impressive cook, a fantastic sister, an excellent student and you are good at everything you do.”

Eric and Gayheart celebrated the arrival of their second child, Georgie Geraldine Dane, on December 28, 2011.

“Rebecca Gayheart and husband Eric Dane welcomed Georgia Geraldine Dane on Dec. 28, just in time for the New Year!” the actress’ rep told PEOPLE. “Both mom and baby girl are happy and healthy, Billie is thrilled to be a big sister, and dad is getting ready to live in a house full of ladies!”

Almost a year later, Gayheart couldn’t help but brag about her “little baby Buddha,” telling PEOPLE, “She’s cute and happy all the time. She’s truly the cutest baby on the planet.”

The disappeared the star added: “She sleeps well. He eats well. She is a gift.”

Speaking to PEOPLE before Georgia was born, she said the pregnancy was less stressful than her first because Billie kept her busy.

“What makes it different is that I’m very focused on Billie… so I’m not too focused on [the pregnancy]. I’m not that neurotic,” she said. “[With Billie] I managed everything I ate and every little symptom I felt. And with this pregnancy, I simply know that everything is fine.”

Although she had heard that having two children was “very challenging,” Gayheart and Eric were prepared. “It’s going to be great in the end because they’re going to be very close in age and very close, hopefully,” she said.

These days, Georgia is a sporty kid who loves volleyball. In 2024, Gayheart posted a video on her Instagram Stories page of her younger daughter tearing it up on the field with the caption, “Go Georgia!”

From the looks of it, she too kept her carefree attitude as she grew up. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Gayheart shared insight into her daughter’s mindset at the start of quarantine.

“She’s the only one in the family who’s thriving, not just surviving,” the actress wrote on Instagram in April 2020. “She loves being at home and finds joy in most everything she does. I’m so thankful for this child 🥳💙.”

In an interview with August 2024 DiversityEric said Georgia had an important question for him after she had the chance to watch her dad in the Grey’s Anatomy.

“When my 12-year-old started watching a couple of years ago, she looked at me and said, ‘Dad, where did your abs go?’ She was serious. She wasn’t kidding,” he said.
