Almost five years after the end of their beloved series, The Modern family The cast is still as close as ever.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, star Eric Stonestreet, 53, talked about his close relationship with his co-stars while talking about his new partnership with Kidde and Ringo.
Stonestreet starred as Cameron Tucker in the hit ABC sitcom alongside his on-screen husband, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, their daughter Aubrey Anderson-Emmons and his in-laws, Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez. The 11-season series premiered in September 2009 and ended in April 2020.

“We all love each other. It was definitely there from the beginning,” he said, before recalling one of his earliest memories of the cast: “It’s dark and creepy, but I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I’ve got so many new people that I ‘ I will grow old with it and know for the rest of my life.’ ”

When asked to share his favorite line-up memory, Stonestreet admitted he couldn’t pick just one.
“There are so many,” he said, adding, “It’s a lot more about the collective, working together and loving each other.”
“I feel like our love for each other dictated how great the show was – with the script, the direction, the sets and all that stuff,” he added. “But there’s no way that show can be successful, as successful as it is, without us individually being great people, and then working with great people.”

Since their friendship extends beyond their show, Stonestreet said he kept his castmates in mind when he and fiancee Lindsay Schweitzer were building their dream home in Kansas City, Kan.
“We wanted to create spaces where we could call Jesse Tyler Ferguson home. We wanted to create spaces where, if Sofia [Vergara] coming through Kansas City, we have a great place for her,” he said.

In addition to making room for his on-screen family in his new home, the actor told PEOPLE that he has “absolutely integrated” Kidde’s new smart smoke and combination (smoke + CO) alarms with the Ring app. The actor has teamed up with a home tech company to encourage homeowners to try a new product, which monitors and alerts residents to carbon monoxide levels. Ring technology allows users to check insights wherever they are.
“What I really like is if I’m away and Lindsay is home, I’ll get a notification that the levels have reached a level that we need to address,” he told PEOPLE. “It’s amazing that we have this level of defense for these things that, unfortunately, are sometimes unavoidable.”
