A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said on X: “We are aware of reports online of an incident near Euston station.
“Police cordons have been put in place as a precaution while officers investigate the suspicious package.”
In another update, the force added: “A controlled explosion was carried out by experts and police cordons have now been lifted.
“Thank you for your patience.”
The incident caused disruption of trains coming and going from the main station.
A passenger on the outbound train to Birmingham New Street told The Sun: “Our overcrowded train was due to leave at 12.16pm and it’s just left.
“The intercom told us the driver had been held up by time – before half an hour later he told us there was a security scare, nothing more.
“The lights went out at one point and people started laughing for lack of a better reaction.
“No one had any idea what was going on until it started appearing on the news.
“On the train are mostly Palace fans who are now worried about missing the 3pm kick-off at Villa Park.”
