Eva Marcille’s Kids: All About Marley Rae, Michael Jr. and Maverick

Eva Marcille is a proud mother of three children.

Marcille had a daughter, Marley Rae, with her ex, Kevin McCall, a year before they split in 2015. The ex America’s Next Top Model the star shares the sons of Michael Jr. and Maverick with her ex-husband, attorney Michael Sterling, whom she married in 2018 before filing for divorce in 2023.

The The Real Housewives of Atlanta alumna is focused on being a current parent in a variety of ways. Marcille made the decision to leave the Bravo reality television show after two seasons in 2020. Speaking on Rickey Smiley The Morning Showthought Marcille that “it’s her time [was] up” with the show and wanted to fully devote herself to her family.

“I have a six-year-old daughter and two boys who are still in diapers,” she explained. “They work 24 hours a day and there is a lot of work. I chose to spend my time and energy focusing on my children and my community. And not so much reality show business.”

She also cited them as her greatest inspiration and motivation in life and career. During the appearance at the 2022 The Carlos Watson ShowMarcille said her “greatest purpose and greatest purpose” came from her children.

“They have the ability to affect change in this world — good, bad and indifferent — and it’s all about what I do,” she said. “Making money is not the goal; being famous is not the goal. To be excellent is the goal – in everything I do.”

Marcille gave birth to her first child, daughter Marley Rae Sterling, with her ex McCall on January 31, 2014.

The former reality TV star told PEOPLE in 2017 that Bob Marley was the inspiration for her daughter’s name, explaining, “It’s a way to keep his name and his spirit alive and bring it into our family.”

During the appearance of 2023 on Be positive, honey podcast, Marcille reflected on how she felt after becoming pregnant with her daughter, explaining that she wanted a son at the time.

“When I got pregnant, I wanted a boy because I’m so rough … and God gave me Marley,” she said. “God knew exactly what he was doing. He knew what he was doing with me. He knew what Marley would do for me and he knew how Marley would change the world.”

Marcille described Marley as a “kind little girl,” adding: “That’s all I want for her. I want my kids to be kind.”

After Marcille married Sterling and the couple had sons Michael Jr. and Maverick, she revealed in the 12th season of the series The Real Housewives of Atlanta that she wanted her daughter to have the same last name as her sons.

Marcille explained that Marley did not know that Sterling was not her biological father, as he had been a father figure in her life since she was 15 months old. Since Marcille had full custody of Marley, Sterling filed for a legal name change.

For activities, Marley plays basketball on the boys’ team. Marcille called her daughter an “MVP” and a “teammate,” telling her Instagram followers that her daughter “dominates” on the court. She shared more action shots of herself on the court for the start of the season, writing that she “couldn’t be prouder”.

Marley showed her penchant for fashion at a young age, using it for “personal and self-expression”.

Marcille told BravoTV.com in 2022, “I let her do her thing and enjoy fashion the way I think she’s meant to enjoy it. Whatever works for you, however you feel. And it should make you feel good at the end of the day .”

On whether Marcille will allow her daughter to follow in her modeling footsteps, she shared with Kinship by parents to be careful about it, but Marley has other interests to support.

“I sent her to acting and performing arts camp this year and she really made it to performing arts school,” Young and restless the star explained. “She likes to be on the screen, she likes to embody the character. And so if she decided that’s what she wanted to do, I would let her do it.”

Marcille and Sterling welcomed their first child together, Michael Todd Sterling Jr., on April 13, 2018.

The All the Queen’s men in 2017, the actress revealed exclusively to PEOPLE that she is expecting her second child, the first with her then-boyfriend Sterling. After finding out she was having her first son, Marcille said she was “beyond ecstatic to be having a boy.”

Although Marcille almost gave her oldest son his grandfather’s nickname, Major, he ended up being named after his father, and his sister nicknamed him Mikey.

“We have a junior, which is a little scary for me because Michael is the most ambitious person I’ve ever met,” she said. “That our son now has to live up to his dad lets me know that there is great promise ahead of his life, but it’s also scary because there’s so much to live up to.”

Marcille lovingly refers to Michael as her “twin” on Instagram, which includes his sense of style. In 2021, she told PEOPLE that he was attracted to hats like hers.

“Just last week the nanny took them to the zoo and he said, ‘I need my hat. I need my hat.’ He’s trying to carry him to school,” she said. “I’m like, ‘Honey. … You can’t wear a fedora to kindergarten.’ ”

Michael also has similar interests to his older sister, including the sports they play. He is on the basketball team, and his mom posts tons of photos and videos of her son “balling” on the court.

Maverick Leonard, 4

Marcille and Sterling welcomed their second child, son Maverick Leonard Sterling, on September 27, 2019.

The couple broke the pregnancy news exclusively to PEOPLE in May of that year, joking in a statement, “Looks like baby Michael Jr. is going to be the middle child and Marley is going to be the boss of them all!”

Marcille revealed the gender of her youngest child for the first time Extra at the 2019 BET Awards, and just weeks before Maverick was born, she shared his name on Instagram the morning she gave birth.

Maverick is also athletically built, but unlike his siblings, he prefers football to basketball.

In addition to his love for sports, his mom shared a hilarious story on social media about his passion for sweets – Red Vines to be exact. She told the story accompanied by a photo of her son sleeping in bed surrounded by several boxes of licorice.

“Last night I heard a noise while I was in the basement. To my surprise, that was the noise I heard,” she wrote on Instagram. “Maverick snuck into the movie theater, broke into the concession stand and took all the red vines.”

Maverick also enjoyed several family vacations with his parents and siblings, including multiple trips to Florida. In the summer of 2022, the group enjoyed fireworks at Disney, and the following year they went to Universal Studios and even met Princess Peach.
