Eva Mendes Asks Ryan Gosling to ‘Come Home’ to ‘Put the Kids to Bed’ After His Ken Oscars Performance

He may just be Ken, but he still has responsibilities at home.

After Ryan Gosling’s electrifying performance of “I’m Just Ken” at the 2024 Academy Awards on Sunday, Barbie the star’s longtime partner Eva Mendes posted a photo of herself in a pink blazer and black cowboy hat on Instagram with the caption: “You took Ken all the way to the Oscars, RG. Now come home, we have to put the kids to bed. 💋”

Gosling (43) and Mendes (50) have two daughters, Esmeralda (9) and Amada (7).

The actor received a nomination in the category of the best supporting actor for the role of Ken. The honor eventually went to Robert Downey Jr. for his role in Oppenheimerwhich took home Best Picture.

Barbie went into the night with a total of eight nominations and walked away with one Oscar, for Best Original Song.

Earlier on Sunday, Mendes posted a video clip outside of Gosling’s dressing room to his Oscar-nominated song “I’m Just Ken” on Instagram. “Always by your man,” the actress wrote alongside Reel.

Gosling, in a hot pink suit and sunglasses, took the stage at Sunday’s 96th Academy Awards alongside Mark Ronson and co-stars Ken Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans and Ncuti Gatwa to belt out the virus Barbie song with maximum energy. At one point Gosling turned the microphone on Barbie directed by Greta Gerwig and starring America Ferrera and Margot Robbie, who will sing a few lines from the front row. Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen helped Gosling close out the energetic performance.

Just before Gosling took the stage, he received an encouraging hug from his mom. Immediately after wrapping, he was escorted out, with Gerwig and Robbie, 33, slumping in their seats as the director made a “smart” gesture with both hands. Gosling reappeared at the Dolby Theater bar, where he smiled and waved to onlookers.

“I’m Just Ken” did not win the award for best original song, but that honor remained in the Barbie family when “What was I made for?” from the soundtrack of the film took home the award. Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell performed the song during the ceremony — and moved the cast Barbie to bring to tears.

“I didn’t think this would happen, I didn’t expect this,” said Eilish, 22, accepting the award. “I feel incredibly lucky and honored.”

The win earned Eilish a second Oscar, making her the youngest double Oscar winner ever. She achieved her first victory in the same category in 2022 for her James Bond anthem “No Time to Die”.

Along with beating “I’m Only Ken,” “What Was I Made For?” won fellow nominees “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot“It Never Went Away” from American Symphonyand “Wahzhazhe (Song for my people)” from Killers of the Flower Moon.
