Eva Mendes has stepped into a new decade.
The actress celebrates her 50th birthday on Tuesday, and although she hasn’t acted in a film role in a decade, Mendes is busy with a new children’s book, supporting her co-star Ryan Gosling Barbie an award-winning season and a return to the world of fashion.
Mendes, who shares two daughters with Gosling, 43, recently announced her new picture book, titled Desi, Mami and endless worrieswill be released on September 17. The book, which will be available in English and Spanish, was illustrated by Abbey Bryant.

“My latest project is a true labor of love,” Mendes wrote on Instagram. “Being a mom to my two little girls inspired me to write my first picture book DESI, MAMI & ENDLESS WORRIES.” She explained that in the story the characters are “trying to deal with those terrible thoughts that can take over (especially at night) and dominate our minds.”

Mendes, who became co-owner and brand ambassador for Skura Style in 2022, recently stepped out and returned to her fashion week, attending the Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan.
“Mom’s first fashion week in over 10 years!” she wrote on Instagram after. “Yes, I haven’t been to a fashion event since I was a mom. Time flies when you’re a mom. Thanks for getting me out of the house @dolcegabbana!”
Mendes established herself as a movie star through roles opposite Denzel Washington in Training day (2001), Paul Walker in 2 Fast 2 Fierce (2003), Will Smith in Snatch (2005), Nicolas Cage in Ghost rider (2007) and more.
She last appeared on the screen in 2014 The Lost Riverdirected by Gosling, but don’t classify her as retired from acting.
In October 2022, Mendes clarified on Instagram that “I never stopped acting.” She then added: “I wanted to be at home with my babies and luckily my other business ventures allowed me to do that more than acting.”

“Also,” she continued, “at the time, I wasn’t excited about the stereotypical roles that were being offered to me. Especially after working on LOST RIVER — that was a dream project. It’s hard to follow.”
Nevertheless, Mendes is the No. 1 support in Gosling’s acting career, especially in the role of Ken opposite Margot Robbie in last year’s blockbuster Barbiewhich earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

“I’m so proud of my man,” she wrote on Instagram in January. ” So much hate when he took on this role. So many people trying to shame him for it. Despite all the #Notmyken mockery and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to the Oscars.”
She added: “More than proud to be Ken’s Barbie.”

Although they are mostly private about their private lives, the actor greeted Mendes in January when he was honored at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
Speaking about his career, Gosling said: “Most importantly, I met the girl of my dreams, Eva Mendes, and had two dream children… I dreamed of making movies one day, and now movies are made by me life is a dream.”
