DC Studios’ James Gunn debuts Superman’s new logo Superman: Legacy (It also received a new title). Production has officially begun on the first movie of the rebooted DCU, with director James Gunn sharing the official first look at the movie. So here are some key details and teasers to glean from this exciting new image.
To celebrate Kark Kent’s birthday in DC canon, Gunn took to Threads to share the official logo for the DCU’s new Superman, played by Davide Corenswet. Gunn’s comments and logo can be viewed below:
I’m very excited to announce that principal photography on Superman will begin today (February 29th), which coincides with – coincidentally and unplannedly – Superman’s birthday(!) When I was finishing the first draft of the script, I titled the film for Superman: Legacy. When I locked in on the final draft, it was obvious that the title would be Superman. We will see you in July 2025. Happy birthday, Clark!Away game
While the new logo design is exciting in its own right, Gunn also confirmed that principal photography Superman: Legacy Started.Additionally, Gunn surprisingly revealed that the film, slated for release in 2025, has also been retitled Superman: Legacy. James Gunn reveals Superman’s new “S” logo
Ties to DC’s Kingdom Come
Custom Imagery by Nicolas Ayala
The new Superman logo appears to have a lot in common with the Superman from DC Comics canon Kingdom Come Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ storyline is set in an alternate reality in the future. However, there may only be a visual connection between the two. Kingdom is coming Superman is older and more experienced, while the DCU’s Clark Kent will reportedly be on the younger side as he nears the start of his superhero career.
The red and black logo and its sleeker “S” design have been a fan favorite since its inception Kingdom is coming Published back in 1996. So the new yellow and red version of the logo worn by Corenswet’s Man of Steel in the DCU will likely be just as popular. Overall, the new symbol does look more like an alien sigil (House of El) that was then recognized as an “S” by humans, rather than already being an obvious letter “S” like the more classic design.
Superman costume material has been revealed
Additionally, the logo and surrounding blue that can be seen on the actual Superman suit appear to be made of the same material.Rather than some kind of spandex (which would feel dated) or something heavier like iron man’s A Kevlar-inspired costume, it looks like the new Superman costume will feature more of a woven material. The logo and suit share the same pattern, and the suit may appear to be lighter in color than the costume worn by Henry Cavill as DCEU Superman.

Superman: Legacy officially renamed SUPERMAN
Heritage themes may still exist
Surprisingly, James Gunn also revealed in his post Superman: Legacy It has since been renamed Superman. Gunn explained that this was a decision made during the scriptwriting process as the final draft was being finalized, seemingly believing that a single name for the title would be more appropriate.Based on Gunn’s wording, it seems like the first DCU movie will be specifically titled Superman All caps, this would be a smart decision to make the project more unique and perhaps differentiate it from the 1978 project Superman Christopher Reeve plays “The Man of Tomorrow.”
Assuming no major script rewrites took place between the first and final drafts, the overall theme of legacy might still be there Superman Based on what Gunn has revealed in the past. For example, Gunn revealed in early 2023 that the movie would focus on Superman as he works on “Reconciling his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.” So it looks like the new Man of Steel will reveal his Kryptonian heritage for the first time, and what that means for his future.
Likewise, Superman will be entering a world already familiar to superheroes, meaning Kal-El will be joining that legacy as well. Still, leaving the word “Legacy” out of the title was perhaps a wise decision when the focus of the movie is on introducing new versions of the characters on the big screen (along with a fresh reboot of the DC Universe).
James Gunn’s Superman post teases major Washington, D.C. locations
fortress of solitude
It’s exciting to see light snow covering the new Superman logo in James Gunn’s new post.Although it’s just speculation at the moment, Snow is expected to tease this Superman will feature Kal-El’s Fortress of Solitude, a major location in the DC Universe that is traditionally located in the Arctic, far from civilization.Previously appeared in various media and in a variety of formats Superman movies and tv, In the Fortress of Solitude, Superman first learned of his Kryptonian origins and powers through the artificial intelligence of his late father, Jor-El.
The Fortress of Solitude played an important role in Superman Certainly supporting the aforementioned legacy theme, Clark must reconcile the Kryptonian aspects of his ancestry. While the news has yet to be confirmed, it would be quite surprising if Superman’s iconic fortress didn’t appear in his DCU debut. Regardless, it should be pretty exciting to see David Corensthwaite in a full Superman suit with the new logo on the chest, considering the news is likely to come sooner rather than later. Superman Principal photography has officially begun.
