Every TV Show Ending In 2023

Including Emmy winners like The Crown and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, there are plenty of hit TV shows ending in 2023. The year 2022 also saw the series finales of numerous beloved TV shows, with farewells being said to series like Better Call Saul, Atlanta, Black-ish, Dead to Me, This Is Us, and Ozark. Meanwhile, plenty of 2022-debuting TV shows that were renewed are expected to bring new seasons in 2023. Of course, this could also add to the number of TV shows ending in 2023, as most series will have to wait until after their premieres to see if they’ll be granted another season.

In addition to the TV shows confirmed to be ending in 2023, there are a few more hit series expected to conclude this year but haven’t received official announcements for their final seasons. Such examples include the potential series finales of Ted Lasso and The Handmaid’s Tale, which could arrive in 2024 instead. Nevertheless, there are a lot of popular TV shows ending in 2023, concluding the stories that fans have followed for several years in some cases.

Succession (2018 – 2023)

Despite its high critical praise, Succession will end its run with its fourth season in 2023. This, however, was the plan all along, according to showrunner Jesse Armstrong. The showrunner said there was a “promise in the title” (via Los Angeles Times) and that moment is coming very soon. Once that happens, Armstrong said that continuing the show would not serve the overall story, and they didn’t want to just keep going for no reason. Armstrong promised that Succession would be “a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong.”

Barry (2018 – 2023)

Bill Hader in Barry season 4 in prison

The hit HBO series Barry is coming to an end after its fourth season in 2023. Barry stars Bill Hader as Barry Berkman, a hired killer who wants to find purpose in his life but can’t get out of his life of crime. Bill Hader talked about how even executive vice president of HBO comedy programming, Amy Gravitt, didn’t know that the show was ending until season 4 began filming and he broke the news (via Variety). Hader mentioned that he wouldn’t want to keep going just to make more seasons and that the end of the series at this point was always at the forefront of his mind, and HBO has since confirmed the news.

The Blacklist (2013 – 2023)

NBC’s hit series The Blacklist is also coming to an end in 2023. This series will end after 10 seasons, although the past few changed things drastically. Megan Boone (Elizabeth Keen), left the series after the eighth season when she was murdered. This left James Spader’s Red on his own, and the show continued for two more seasons to finish up his story. When Red ended his work with the FBI, it set the stage for his eventual end. The one mystery left to unveil on The Blacklist is who Raymond Reddington really is, which will leave things exciting up to the final episode.

Titans (2018 – 2023)

When Warner Bros. brought in James Gunn and Peter Safran to run the DC Comics properties, it meant the end of an era. Not only is Gunn rebooting the movie franchise in the DCU, but he is also connecting all the HBO Max shows as well to that world. This meant Titans had to end. The show, which started off on DC Universe before moving to HBO Max, will finish its run with the upcoming second half of the fourth season. The good news is that Warner Bros allowed Titans to receive a proper ending with the final episodes.

The Goldbergs (2013 – 2023)

Barry and Lainey in The Goldbergs.

The 10th season of The Goldbergs will be the final one for the ’80s-themed sitcom. Debuting in 2013, the show ended up as one of the best nostalgia-based comedies on television in the last decade. However, several things happened to start its downfall. Supporting cast member Geroge Segal passed away and then shortly after that, series star, Jeff Garlin, was fired. His character Murray was killed off in the season 10 premiere and the series will now end at the end of that season.

Fear The Walking Dead (2015 – 2023)

Morgan and Madison in Fear the Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead ended its run in 2022 and in 2023, its first spinoff series, Fear the Walking Dead will end its run in 2023. Much like how the original series had to deal with The Commonwealth, FtWD is dealing with the mysterious PADRE. The eighth season will not only mark the end of the series, but it will bring the past back to the story, as Madison turned out to still be alive and was partially responsible for Morgan’s daughter’s kidnapping, pushing the tension to unbearable levels for the final run. This won’t be the end of the franchise, though, as there are several more spinoffs coming.

Doom Patrol (2019 – 2023)

Doom Patrol Season 4 characters walking in a line

The biggest cult favorite DC Comics series to come out of the DC Universe slate of shows was Doom Patrol. There was nothing like the show, with a group of misfits gathered together by a reclusive genius to save the world. However, the show will end with its fourth season in 2023. According to star Mark Sheppard, the final episode of the fourth season will set up a real ending for the story this series has attempted to tell. Much like Titans, the first part of Doom Patrol season 4 already aired, and there are just a few episodes left before the series finale.

The critically acclaimed period drama about the Royal family is coming to an end in 2023. The Crown has followed the story of the British Royal family since the start of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, but it is set to end in the late 1990s or early 2000s – over 20 years before the Queen’s death in September 2022. After plenty of controversy, Emmy wins, and notable casting changes, The Crown season 6 will mark the conclusion of the Netflix series.

The Crown originally planned to end after season 5, but decided to add another season due to the sheer number of notable events that occurred during the late 1990s, including the death of Princess Diana. It’s still unclear whether Netflix will expand beyond the historic reign of Queen Elizabeth by producing a prequel spinoff to The Crown, perhaps exploring the Royals in eras from several centuries ago. For now, the hit TV show is expected to premiere its series finale at the end of 2023.

The CW is concluding yet another series in 2023, with Nancy Drew season 4 being its final installment. The decision to end the mystery drama adaptation of the Nancy Drew novels had been in the works for a while, which gives the show ample time to provide a satisfying series finale. Considering the Nancy Drew spinoff Tom Swift was canceled after one season in 2022, the CW likely won’t be expanding on these characters’ stories any further. Though season 4’s release date hasn’t been confirmed, Nancy Drew is expected to end in 2023.
