Multiple passengers on Emirates flight EK421 en route from Perth, Australia to Dubai were injured after the plane encountered unexpected severe turbulence on Monday.
The incident caused several passengers and crew members to be thrown onto the ceiling of the aircraft. Some passengers shared their experiences and consequences x (formerly Twitter) after a terrifying journey.
“I had the worst flight back from Perth to Dubai with @emirates,” one user under the name @MattRPD wrote. “Geniunelly felt it was the end because we hit the ceiling twice and broke the ceiling. I’m glad to be home.”
Attached to the caption is a photograph that reveals a large crack in the ceiling.

Another passenger wrote about a “terrible” trip x and shared photos of cracks in the ceiling where their hair got stuck.
“The @emirates the flight from perth to dubai was awful. I hate flying, so I rarely get up unless I have to,” user @lunars_magic captioned his post. “The pilot announced turbulence and to sit down. Literally a second later, me and the others hit the ceiling. You can see my hair in the crack.”
They added that while the crew did the “best they could” to treat the injured and support everyone, the overall experience was “very scary”.

“It even crossed my mind for a moment, if this is it, am I going to die,” they continued. “I hope others injured or traumatized make a speedy recovery.”

An Emirates spokesperson said in a statement to PEOPLE: “We can confirm that flight EK421 from Perth to Dubai briefly encountered unexpected mid-flight turbulence on December 4. Unfortunately, this resulted in injuries to a small number of crew members and passengers on the flight. The flight continued to Dubai and landed at 4:45 a.m. local time.”
They added that the injured were examined by crew members and “medically trained volunteers”, while additional medical assistance was “provided via satellite link”.
“The flight was met by medical services on landing and Emirates has also deployed its nursing team to ensure that the injured passengers and crew are provided with all possible support,” the statement concluded.
