Faisal Kapadia started his music career during his graduation when he founded the band “Strings” with his friends Bilal Maqsood, Rafiq Wazir Ali and Kareem Bashir Bhoy. Initially, the band signed with EMI Records. Despite selling 20,000 copies in its first week, their early efforts in synthetic sounds and rhythms were not immediately recognized. Two years later, the band released their second album “2”, which contained their first hit song “Sar Kiye Yeh Paha”. The song earned the Strings widespread critical recognition. After the release of the second album, the members decided to take a vacation and concentrate on studying and preparing for their final exams. To maintain the band’s reputation, Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood agreed to release a new song in 2000. The song was titled “Duur” and was followed by another song titled “Dhaani” (2003).

Around 2002, Pakistani pop music gained a cult following in India. Strings has since traveled to India with local music networks to collaborate with Indian counterparts. The band recorded “Jeet Lo Dil” with Delhi music group “Euphoria” which marked their crossover breakthrough. The song was chosen as the official theme song for the Indian cricket team’s tour of Pakistan. They subsequently signed a deal with Gibson Guitar Company, making them one of only two South Asian bands to have a partnership with the Gibson guitar manufacturer, along with Jal. Strings released the single Ab Khud Kuch Karna Parega in July 2010, featuring former Jal singer Atif Aslam.

Faisal Kapadia made his Bollywood debut in 2005 with his band “Strings”. Frontman Faisal sang the song “Ye Hai Meri Kahani” for Sanjay Gupta’s Hindi action thriller “Zinda”. In 2007, the band also recorded music for “Shootout at Lokhandwala”, another Bollywood film directed by Sanjay Gupta. They composed the song “Aakhri Alvidaa” which became an instant hit. Later that year, Faisal Kapadia and his team composed the song “Charon Taraf” for Ahishor Solomon’s film “John Day”.

Strings decided to end its journey last year and I personally feel that we are really lucky to have made this decision,…. In 1992, after the release of our second album, Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar, we canceled the release plan and did not return to making more music until 2000. We also did many seasons of Coca-Cola Studio. But last year, after realizing how far we’d come and how much we didn’t want to disrupt, we decided to quit for good. The songs Pilar and I wrote together will live on forever. Gaanay hamesha zinda rehtay hain, even if the artist leaves. I will perform them; Pilar will perform them. If you’re familiar with us, you know that Pilar and I have always been opposites. As strings, we complement each other. Where I am weak, he is strong, and vice versa. So, because of that, we learned a lot from each other. We won’t let it go.
