Tosi was never meant to be a full-time cooking show judge; it turns out. She entered the race for the seat vacated by Joe Bastianich. “After many enjoyable years as a judge on MasterChef and MasterChef Junior, I have decided not to return,” Bastianich said in November 2014, announcing his departure from the competition. He said he will devote his time and effort to expanding his company as co-owner of Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group.

Before leaving the show, Tosi told Entertainment Weekly that competing in the cooking competition felt “untouchable and fantastic.” According to her stories, she was a longtime follower of MasterChef. She watched the program on purpose because she loved witnessing how much passion local chefs have for food. “For some reason, I’ve always found it to be the right combination of exciting, stimulating, demanding and emotional,” she continued.

Tosi was driving in her vehicle when her friend, a CAA agent, contacted her and asked if she wanted to work on the program. “Of course, I panicked,” the famous baker recalled. She went on to say that she had to “imagine how she went from loving watching it to loving being a part of it” in a very short amount of time. Tosi entered the show alongside her co-hosts, Gordon Ramsay and Graham Elliot, after a quick screen test and preparation on how to deliver her comments and feedback. She said she gets along well with Ramsay. She thought they were on the same page, even though they worked differently in the kitchen.
