FFXIV: How Does Shadowbringers’ Savage Loot Work?

Shadowbringers patch 5.05 brings the first brutal battle of the expansion to Eden Raid. For some, this may be their first look at the Savage Loot system (if you’re new to Savage Raids, check out this guide to learn how to prepare). For others, they may be used to what expansion packs have done in the past and wonder what has changed this time around. The big difference with Shadowbringers is that most of the loot is from vaults, rather than individual equipment.

Some may worry about this change, because it means that everyone in the party can vote “needs” on everything. Almost all loot is played against 7 people (you have 1/8 chance of winning). However, in previous expansions, your class equipment was not guaranteed to drop forever (in the case of armor, you had a 1/7 chance to see your class equipment, and then you could still He had to compete with someone on the roll to make the 1/14). Vaults now mean you’ll always have access to the right gear. I think it’s an improvement over the barbaric loot system in general.

loot eligibility

Once a week, you will have the opportunity to move around each floor in search of loot. It’s very important to note that this is different from the normal version, where you get one piece of loot per floor (for example, you can run them again until you get one). In wild, if you don’t win any loot rolls, you won’t get any loot that week. On the other hand, if you are very lucky, you can earn more than one piece of loot in a single battle.

Remember that when you complete each battle for the first time each week, you get a guaranteed Apocrypha (or “Book”) directly into your inventory (as long as you have space in it). These books can be saved and traded with Yhal Yal in Eulmore (10.1, 11.5) for the same equipment dropped from Edengrace’s vault. This token system is used to ensure that you end up guaranteeing your loot even if you have a long list of bad loot rolls.

Also, there will be a penalty for the amount of loot dropped in a battle if someone from the team has already completed the battle that week. Normally two chests will drop, but if 1-4 party members have cleared the level, there will only be one chest instead of two. If 5 or more party members have already leveled up, there will be no chests, but you will still receive your weekly book.

Finally, you must complete the battle to receive all of your loot (or loot chances) each week. For example, if you enter E2S without passing E1S that week, you will immediately lose any loot opportunity for that week’s E1S. It doesn’t matter if the E2S cleanup fails or not. Just entering the instance is enough to skip the loot from the previous floor. This includes books placed directly into your inventory.

Good luck party seekers! What do you think of the new brutal loot system? Are you happy with the new gearboxes or do you want Shadowbringers to keep the old loot mechanic?
