He received his formal education at St Kentigern’s College, Auckland, where he rose to prominence playing cricket and was subsequently selected for the New Zealand team at the age of 15 for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

On 17 February 2018, Allen made his international debut for New Zealand at the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and subsequently played for Auckland in the 2017–18 Ford Cup A-grade competition, and on 9 March 2018, he made his first-class cricket debut for Auckland in the 2017–18 Plunkett Shield.
Allen was thrust into the international spotlight during the 2020-21 Fantasy 11 Super Smash Championship, where he was crowned Player of the Tournament after failing to score in the first few matches of the league. In 11 games for the Wellington Firebirds, he scored 512 points at a strike rate of 193.
International
Finn excelled as a schoolboy and was selected for New Zealand’s 2016 Under-19 World Cup squad. He then captained New Zealand at the 2018 Under-19 World Cup and became New Zealand’s highest run-scorer in the tournament, scoring 338 runs.

As the highest run-scorer in the tournament, Finn Allen’s impressive performance in the 2020-21 Fantasy 11 Super Smash helped him earn a place in the New Zealand Twenty20 International (T20I) team for the home series against Bangladesh. Finn made his T20I debut for New Zealand against Bangladesh in Hamilton on 28 March 2021. The wicketkeeper-batsman’s international career did not get off to a good start as he was bowled for zero from the first ball in his first match and scored only 17 runs in the subsequent matches.

In the third match, he bounced back strongly and showed his destructive power. He scored 71 runs off 29 balls but was eventually caught out by Bangladeshi bowler Taskin Ahmed. His 18-ball fifty was the second fastest half-century by a New Zealander in a T20 International (18-ball fifty).

Johnson & Johnson
Finn was unsold in the 2021 Indian Premier League player auction; however, when one of the players picked by RCB, Josh Philippe, withdrew from the tournament due to personal reasons, Finn Allen was included in the RCB squad as a replacement player. He received a base price of Rs 20 lakh, which was the price for which Josh Philippe was sold.

- Growing up, Finn Allen considered former England player Kevin Pietersen his batting idol.
- Finn’s main mantra while batting is “see the ball, hit the ball”.
- Although the Black Caps batsman rose through the ranks as a T20 batsman at a fairly fast pace, he has not been able to make a mark in the longer format.
