Florida Family’s Hero Dog Saves Teenager from New Year’s Eve House Fire: ‘He Just Gave Him a Nip’

One Florida family feels especially grateful for their heroic pet dog.

On New Year’s Eve, Safety Harbor resident Nicole Evans was out of town when her house caught fire while her teenage son, Griffin, was sleeping inside, according to local outlet WFLA.

Evans told the news station that she received a call that her home was on fire on the holiday, and said her son was alerted to the fire while inside by their dog, Macho.

“He just kept going at him, and then he just bit him, a couple of pieces, and [woke] pick him up,” said the mother.

She added: “It was probably the worst experience of my life not being with the person you love the most while something is happening to them that you can’t do.”

While the Safety Harbor Fire Department told WFLA the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Evans said she’s thankful her son and their dog, the dog, survived.

“All those things [we lost] are just things,” she said. “… And some of those things are important, [but] in the end, it’s all replaceable. He is not replaceable, my dog is not replaceable.”
