Former NFL Star Adam 'Pacman' Jones Charged with Assaulting an Officer, Resisting Arrest After Fight in Texas Hotel

Former Cincinnati Bengals star Adam “Pacman” Jones is facing multiple charges in Texas after he was involved in a hotel bar fight, according to police.

Jones, 41, was arrested in the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 16, and charged with public intoxication, assault on a peace officer and resisting and evading arrest, according to Arlington Police Department (APD) booking records.

APD told PEOPLE in a statement that the officer, who was off-duty and working a shift at the Live by Loews hotel, was notified by security shortly after 1 a.m. that “a fight had broken out in the bar.” However, by the time the officer arrived at the scene, the “individuals involved” in the fight – including Jones – had already been “separated.”

Police said at that time the former NFL player “continued to come up and yell at the others involved” in the altercation, prompting an officer to step between them and issue a warning to Jones that if he “attempts to fight again, he will be arrested. ”

A fight broke out again at the bar involving Jones “a short time later,” prompting a police officer and hotel security to intervene again.

“While the officer and hotel security were working to separate the individuals involved, Mr. Jones struck the female officer in the arm,” APD said in a statement. “At that moment, [the officer] he informed Mr. Jones [that] she arrested him for assaulting a peace officer.”

APD added that the officer called for backup, and while she waited for them to arrive, she attempted to handcuff Jones. However, Jones “broke free and started walking away.”

Additional officers eventually arrived on the scene and “assisted in taking him into custody,” APD said.

Jones was booked into the Arlington City Jail around 3:30 a.m. Nov. 16, according to booking records. His bail was set at $319.

Jones’ representatives did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

However, one of his representatives told TMZ Sports, which first reported the news, that the former football cornerback “vehemently denies the allegations and looks forward to explaining the truth when the time is right.”

The outlet added that Jones was “in town” for the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight “like thousands of other people in Dallas last night” and that he was “enjoying himself, spending time with the fans.” He added that “Pacman was going back to his hotel to rest for the evening” and “wasn’t looking for trouble.”

This is not the first time that the former cornerback has had a run-in with the law.

He was arrested at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport last year after causing a disturbance as an “rude passenger” on a flight, multiple news outlets reported at the time.

A misdemeanor charge was issued against him for drunkenness, misconduct and threat of terrorism.

Prior to that, in 2017, the former NFL player was arrested on charges of assault, disorderly conduct, obstructing official business and harassment with a bodily substance after allegedly causing a disturbance at the Millennium Hotel in Cincinnati, police confirmed to PEOPLE at the time.
