Former This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield says he was fired from ITV because of the bad publicity his pedophile brother’s crimes caused.
This contradicts the story created at the time of his departure last May, which suggested he resigned after admitting an affair with a younger female runner.

Phillip spoke in his documentary Cast Away, which starts tonight on Channel 5, and sees him bare his soul while isolated on a desert island.
He said: “I was becoming more of a story than a program. And I agreed to say that I resigned because it would be more orderly for everyone. I was fired because of bad publicity for someone else’s crime.”
It was always believed that Phillip had to leave because he had not previously admitted his affair with the runner.
In the last of the three parts, on Wednesday, he says: “I busted myself with everything else because I thought the only way to make this right for all of it was to do a full mea culpa.

“I came clean about my affair. What people don’t realize is that I didn’t get fired from This Morning when I admitted I lied… it was before, because of someone I used to call my brother.”
He also appeared to attack certain colleagues on This Morning who claimed they were not up to date with the fact that Tim Schofield was facing charges of sexual misconduct against a teenager in 2023.
Phillip said: “I’ve always been open and honest with everyone at work about what’s going on with my brother.”

Cast Away verdict
Author: Rod McPhee
OVER three nights – and three one-hour episodes – Phillip Schofield bore his soul in Channel 5’s new show Cast Away.
And it’s actually an opportunity for the former host of This Morning to explain the circumstances that led him to leave the show last year.
To put it mildly, he went under a cloud, admitting that he had a relationship with a much younger runner from the program. But in the C5 show, he presents his own version of events – one that contradicts the emerging narrative at the time.
He is portrayed as a man who had an “unwise” affair, who resigned as a result and let many of his colleagues down.
But in Cast Away, Phillip insists he was fired from ITV, not because of the affair, but because of the bad publicity surrounding his pedophile brother’s crimes. He summed it up best when he said he was “thrown under the bus”.
However, after watching Cast Away what you are left with is something quite confusing.
Did Phillip think he did something wrong by falling in love with a runner or didn’t he? For example, he said that he would not have been criticized so much if it had been a heterosexual relationship.
He said he would: “get a pat on the back if he had an affair with a woman.” This means that the only thing wrong was that it was a same-sex love affair. So why does he also say: “I will be sorry forever. I screwed up. I was wrong.”
The answer, I suppose, is that the whole affair was a murky affair. There were so many blurred lines around appropriateness, professionalism and honesty.
The only solid conclusion you can draw from the series is that Phillip himself isn’t ENTIRELY sure of the extent to which he was guilty of wrongdoing.
In the midst of this confusion, what will the audience think? I suspect this will make those who disliked Phillip even more suspicious of him.
Those who supported him will also understand. But those still unsure of what to think will be none the wiser – and I’m not sure Phillip would want that.

The death-defying scenes in Professor Brian Cox’s new BBC documentary were so alarming they had to be cut.
A famous physicist flew over Alaska to see the surface of a glacier that matched those in space for the new Solar System series.
He said: “I went on a glacier pilot flight to Denali, which is the highest mountain in the world, with a woman known as the Raven of Denali.
“It was an old single-engine plane. I was nervous. I was chatting and she suddenly said, ‘Okay, now you have to be quiet, I’m going to fly you over the ridge’.
“The ridge is always very turbulent – we went over it and the plane remained weightless. I saw a videographer with a camera floating in the air, he was falling.
“We couldn’t put it in.”
