Francisco Lindor Thanks John Mayer for Calling New York Mets Star a Major ‘Inspiration’ to Him: 'It's Mutual'

New York Mets star Francisco Lindor is returning the love, following John Mayer’s heartfelt tribute to the killer.

On Monday, Oct. 21, one day after the Mets’ baseball season ended after losing Game 6 of the NLCS to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the “Gravity” singer, 47, wrote a lengthy Instagram post about how the Mets shortstop inspired her singers and guitarists with their hard work and dedication throughout the season.

“Thank you Francisco Lindor @lindor12bc. Thank you New York Mets,” Mayer began his post. “You never know when you’ll find a new source of inspiration, and Francisco became that inspiration for me this year. You could see the dedication in his eyes, in his plays — you could even see it in his shots; it wasn’t a case of ‘he couldn’t,’ just ‘not that way.’ ”

Mayer then said he reflected on the athlete’s performance amid his own struggles, after injuring his finger during Dead & Company’s Las Vegas Sphere residency over the summer.

“When I hurt my finger and looked down to see half my nail cut off and bleeding, my first thought was how to play with my other three fingers,” wrote the seven-Grammy-winning performer. “That’s what Lindor would do, and that’s what I did.”

Lindor offered his own compliments to Mayer in the comments.

“I love my brother very much,” wrote Lindor, 30. “The inspiration is mutual. See you soon.”

Despite the loss to the Dodgers, Lindor’s postseason was inspiring for fans as well. The player’s grand slam in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Pittsburgh Pirates helped the Mets advance to the NLCS.

Mayer, a longtime Mets fan who wore the team’s orange and blue during Dead & Co. concerts, also thanked the organization.

“Their monumental ride was enough to unite the city, bring together families, friends and remind us that, above all, nothing is a more powerful force in achieving success than hard work,” Mayer wrote.
