The Gwinnett County Police Department released her identity Tuesday

A mother in Georgia died at a house party a month after her 18th birthday.

Officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a call of a person shot just after 1 a.m. at a local home on Friday.

“When officers arrived on scene, they discovered what appeared to be a house party. Officers cleared the home and discovered a deceased female,” the department said in a statement.

According to WANF, the victim — later identified authorities as 18-year-old Shania Green of Lawrenceville, Georgia — was found “on what appeared to be a back patio” and “appeared to have possibly suffered a gunshot wound to the head.”

A neighbor told WANF they saw “a bunch of kids trying to get in their cars and leave the subdivision” after the shooting. According to media reports, the home owner’s son hosted the party, and the home owner was not at home at the time of the incident.

Police have not identified a suspect in this case and asked the public to contact detectives with relevant information.

Green turned 18 in November and was the mother of a 7-month-old boy, according to a GoFundMe campaign started by her aunt, Sade Long. Long created a campaign to raise donations for “expenses associated with her service and burial” that Green was “excited to finally be able to get out and socialize a bit.”

Long remembers Green as “a wonderful daughter, mother, sister, granddaughter and niece who touched the lives of everyone around her.”
