Mahatma Gandhi was the forerunner of the Swachhta Andolan (cleanliness movement) in India. Therefore, taking a moment to spread awareness about sanitation and hygiene is the best way to express gratitude towards him and his legacy. The national campaign on October 1 invites citizens from all walks of life to join real activities of cleaning public places like markets, railway tracks, water bodies, tourist sites, religious places etc. Every city, Gram Panchayat, all sectors of government like civil aviation, railways, information and technology, etc., and public institutions will enable the holding of events on cleanliness led by citizens.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development is actively participating in “Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, marking the 9th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The campaign is scheduled for October 1, 2023 at 10 a.m. for one hour.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has planned more than 29,000 events with an expected participation of over 15 million people. The drives are organized through Anganwadi Centres, One Stop Centers and National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD) offices under the Ministry as part of the “Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” campaign.
