Gary Busey is under investigation for an alleged hit and run, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to PEOPLE that the station’s traffic detectives are investigating Busey’s alleged involvement in the incident.
The A deadly weapon actor, 79, allegedly backed his car into another vehicle while exiting a shopping center along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu on Wednesday, an unidentified woman told TMZ.
On Tuesday, TMZ released a video of an unidentified woman filming her pursuit of Busey, accusing him of crashing her car and demanding information about his insurance. Busey allegedly exited the mall and hit the woman’s bumper. Instead of stopping, the woman claimed to TMZ that Busey left the scene.
“Sir, you hit my car, I need your information!” in the video, the woman behind the camera can be heard shouting. Reaching down to show the damage to the front of the vehicle reported by Busey, she adds, “You’ve got scratches all over the car.”

Busey appears to reply, “I’m a private person,” and mentions insurance. He can then be seen getting into his vehicle and leaving.
Several photos of the car’s battered rear bumper, allegedly belonging to the woman who accused Busey of the hit-and-run, were also shared with TMZ.
A rep for Busey did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
In 1988, the 1978 Oscar-nominated star The story of Buddy Holly was involved in another, more dangerous traffic accident. After flying through the windshield of his motorcycle and landing on his head, he underwent emergency neurosurgery followed by months of recovery.

In a 1989 interview with PEOPLE, he claimed to have been visited by the Grim Reaper after a near-death experience.
“I was sitting in bed when I looked up and saw the Grim Reaper standing in the corner,” Busey said at the time. “He was 7 feet tall with a brown dress. He pointed at me and said, ‘Relax, it’s not time for you to go. You have been given gifts. These gifts are ready for humanity to receive. So stand up and improve.’ Then he laughed, twirled his hair and left.”
Busey has also starred in hit films such as Break point and Under siegeand in 2018 he wrote a comprehensive memoir Buseyisms: Gary Busey’s Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.
In 2022, Busey was charged with four counts of sexual contact and harassment after appearing at a horror convention in New Jersey. He denied the allegations at the time, telling TMZ, “Nothing happened. It’s all fake.”
