The BBC has revealed the first look at its upcoming drama, The Way, which stars famous faces including stars from The Crown, Peaky Blinders and It is a sin.
A series called Wthat, created by Michael Sheen, who is making his television directorial debut. The author of the project is James Graham, who is also a co-creator with Adam Curtis.

The three-part film, which was filmed in Port Talbot, Wales, is about “an ordinary family caught up in an unusual chain of events that emanate from their hometown” and promises to be “ambitious, powerful and surprising”.

The main cast consists of Gavin and Stacey, Steffan Rhodri Keeping the faith‘s Mali Harries, Pact actress Sophie Melville, It is a sinCallum Scott Howells and Michael Sheen as the Driscoll family, with Baptiste star Maja Laskowska plays a young woman caught up in her family’s escape.
Meanwhile, Luke Evans (Murders in Pembrokeshire) plays Hogwood, a mercenary in pursuit of the Driscolls.

Tom Cullen (Gold), Danny Sapani (Killing Eve), Mark Lewis Jones (Crown) also appear on the show, alongside Paul Rhys (Discovery of witches), Erin Richards (Crown) and Aneurin Barnard (Cilla).

The cast is rounded out by Catherine Ayers (Light in the hall), Patrick Baladi (Duty service), Georgia Tennant (Staged), Jonathan Nefydd (Pobol y Cwm, Grav), and Matthew Aubrey (A world on fire), as well as child actor Teilo James Le Masurier, who makes his screen debut as Rhys, the Driscolls’ four-year-old grandson.

“The road delves into the social and political chaos of today’s world by imagining a civil uprising that begins in a small industrial town,” according to the synopsis. “Fleeing unrest, the Driscolls are forced to flee the land they’ve always called home and the safety of their old lives. Will memories of the past overwhelm them, or will they lay their spirits to rest and risk an unknown future?
“The Road is an emotional and darkly humorous story about what it means to be faced with impossible choices.”

The series is produced by Red Seam in Wales in association with Little Door Production, while Adam Curtis, James Graham and Michael Sheen join Bethan Jones as executive producers for Red Seam, with Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC and Nick Andrews for BBC Cymru Wales.

The series, which was produced in collaboration with BBC Cymru Wales, will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer. A release date has yet to be announced.
Time is one of many new series coming to BBC One in the coming months. Viewers can also look forward to a new six-part drama from Happy Valley screenwriter Sally Wainwright. Hot Flush follows five women who decide to form an unsavory punk-rock band in order to enter a talent competition. The series takes a turn when they realize they have a lot more to say than they first thought.
