Ahead of the game, Keane tipped the Three Lions to reach the quarter-finals in line with their status as favourites.

However, his subsequent remark left his former Manchester United team-mate in stitches.

Giving his prediction for the game, Keane exclaimed: “I can’t see anything but England winning.”

In response, Neville said, “He’s gone early, he’s gone early!”

This prompted Keane to quip: “Story of my life!”

The Irishman’s lecture sent Neville into hysterics next to him in the studio.

Keane and Neville’s relationship dates back to their time together at Old Trafford.

As teammates, the two made a combined 322 appearances for United, winning 17 major trophies with the club.

“Obviously before tonight’s performance, you were in the final. All of a sudden after the game, it’s going to be a tough knockout game.

“We’re going back to it, simplifying, focusing on the next game. England have an incredibly talented group of players, but that doesn’t guarantee anything.

“You need a little bit of luck, you need that team to come together and you need your strikers to show up.

“They haven’t done that yet, but I think they’re still a good matchup and will be a threat.”
