The house they bought on 12 hectares north of the city, however, was far from magical when they first found it, according to their architect.
“The house was terrible,” said Stephen Samuelson of the Arquitect Studio Studio AD. “It was the 1950s block building that sat empty and got worse. But it was a great place, and the foundation was well placed on the ground.”
Together, they transformed the structure so that they include large living spaces with twenty -foot ceilings and a style that mixed Pueblo, colonial and Spanish Baroque architecture.
“I wanted a big room with a sense of great hall, with other rooms that opened it, not closed with many walls,” Hackman said Exit. His sensibility of interior design also leaned against the theater.
“The house is new, but from our news we tried to bring it back for a hundred or more years,” he divided. “The mortar was very good, but I wanted water marks, as if there had been a leak over the years. I wanted the plaster to darken in some places, as if smoke.”

There are deliberately old details through the house, such as wooden ceiling beams that were in trouble and even burned. Hackman was so special about every detail, Samuelson shares: “We had to call him and constantly send sketches. If we didn’t, we would get a call in a few days: ‘Hello, this is Gene Hackman. Do you remember me?” ”
Hackman said AD That the vision for his residence in New Mexico was “completely different from my other houses”, which were much more formal. Through his career, he moved several times and enjoyed the project of renovating each property before he moved to the next one.

This habit makes it significant that Santa Fe realized the actor for at least 35 years, from the moment he published a completed house there until his death.
“I think he loved Santa Fe,” photographer Mark Kreush said on Thursday, February 27th. “I saw him repeatedly and he would go to fast food places, and he will come out and he had different estates where he would work in the yard. In the early 90s, he would do that.”
The natural beauty and tranquility of the area seemed to talk to the star. “He would go to those long rides,” Kreushch said. “It was as if it was a cerebel, somehow it was just that he just cleared his mind.”
Return of the 90s, Hackman would enter his “truck and ride toward the mountains with his oils and canvas” to paint, according to AD.

“They would drive great far in the middle of nothing, and she would bring him food and have some excursions … Find a distant place, some really nice place, and they would park and hang out for a few hours.
The couple were also fixing their community and close to many owners of local companies.
Hackman and Arakawa were investors at a local Asian fusion restaurant called Jinja. The housewife in the meal tells people that although the couple was not involved directly with the restaurant for about 10 years, they still “have a drawing about [Hackman] In the back room “and Arakawa had a lasting impact on the menu:” We use Betsy’s recipe for green and red curry. ”
