George and Amal Clooney’s Kids: Everything They’ve Said About Parenting

George Clooney may once have been one of Hollywood’s most desirable bachelors, but now he’s a devoted family man thanks to his wife, lawyer and philanthropist Amal Clooney.

“I didn’t know how unfulfilled [my life] until I met Amal,” The midnight sky said the actor GQ. “And then everything changed. And I thought, ‘Oh, actually, this was a huge empty space.’ ”

After an Italian wedding in 2014, George and Amal welcomed twins Alexander and Ella in June 2017. A ticket to heaven the star was then 56 years old.

The Clooneys are now very discerning in their choice of work projects to ensure that Alexander and Ella are prioritized. “Married, and now with kids, you show selfishness by only looking at yourself,” George told PEOPLE. “It’s a wonderful thing. Amal and I talk about it every day. We feel so lucky.”

George may be an A-list celebrity, but he’s not immune to parenting issues. For now, the actor says he gets a little help from the cheerleader in the big red suit when his twins misbehave.

“Everyone still loves Santa, which is a big help because when my kids misbehave, say in July, I [get] call from Santa,” he shared with PEOPLE in December 2023, adding that he chose a “friend” as the fictional character. “I actually have a friend whose [caller ID] ‘Santa Claus’ appears. ”

Alexander Clooney, 6

George and Amal welcomed their twins on June 6, 2017 at London’s St. Son Alexander came first, at 12:54. While many Hollywood stars choose more unique names for their children, the Clooneys in particular chose more classic, modest names for their twins.

“I didn’t want, like, weird names for our kids,” George said AARP Magazine in 2021. “He’ll have enough problems already. It’s hard to be the son of someone famous and successful.”

Alexander, who is now 6 years old, is said to look just like his handsome father. “They’re beautiful, just adorable,” a source told PEOPLE in 2018. “One looks just like her mother and the other is a picture of his father.”

Ever since their twins were born, the Clooneys have been vocal about their different personalities. Alexander seems to be the more open brother, which was proven when he crashed his father’s interview with GQ in 2021. He also has a funny side, with George about it WTF with Marc Maron podcast that his morning routine with Alexander makes him “laugh out loud”.​

“Alexander knocks on my bedroom door every morning, at eight in the morning,” he explained. “I say, ‘Who is it?’ And he says, ‘It’s me, Alexander Clooney.’ ”

Alexander, like many young men, also loves cars — an obsession that can sometimes be dangerous. “He comes out and hugs my car. ‘Car!’ and he hugs him,” George continued The Ellen Show in 2019. “What’s wrong with me driving. It’s really not good. He gets behind the wheel well,” he joked.

Ella was born two minutes after Alexander in London’s St. Mary’s June 6, 2017 Just like her brother got his look from their dad, Ella looks just like her mom. “My daughter looks exactly like Amal,” George told PEOPLE a few months after her birth in 2017. “She has big beautiful eyes… It’s amazing.”

Unlike her brother, Ella is quite reserved. “Ella is very shy around adults,” George told PEOPLE in 2020. George gave even more insight into Ella’s personality in a 2021 interview. Guardsaying: “Alexander likes to laugh and Ella is very serious and always makes sure everyone plays by the rules.”

But it seems that Ella is also a bit of a prankster. “My whole job, really, is to teach them scary things,” George joked ET. “My daughter has taken the mantle now. She used to think it was really gross, everything we did, but then she saw how much Alexander laughed and now she’s taken it too.”

And while Alexander fell in love with cars, Ella is a bit of a fashionista. “My daughter is upstairs in my wife’s closet with purses that say ‘Mine!’ George told Ellen DeGeneres in 2019, “So I see this is going to be a fun, fun life for me.”

Although the twins are developing their own personalities, George is focused on soaking up all the time while his kids still think he’s cool. The A ticket to heaven star was honored at the 2022 Kennedy Center Honors and spoke with her Extra about what his children think about the confession.

“They’re 5 years old, so I’m golden now,” he said with a laugh.

Amal added, “They say, ‘Dad can fix everything except time. He can solve all their problems and is the funniest person they’ve ever met.’
