George Clooney and Julianna Margulies 'Still Sign Our Personal Emails' to Each Other with Their ER Names

ambulance may be over, but George Clooney and Julianne Margulies’ friendship will last forever!

While speaking at the Television Academy in honor of the medical drama’s 30th anniversary on Monday, September 16, Marguiles, 58, revealed that she and Clooney, 63, are still keeping the tradition going.

“It always had to be Carol and Doug in the end,” Margulies said. “George and I, to this day, still sign our personal emails to each other ‘Love, Carol’ or ‘Doug.’ ”

Her confession referred to their names ambulance characters Marguiles played head nurse Carol Hathaway, while Clooney played her lover, Dr. Doug Ross.

Margulies — who admitted she still gets “very emotional” if she happens to catch a replay and hear it ambulance theme song — also recalled the reaction to Clooney’s subsequent return to the hit series after his Season 5 exit.

“My mother said she screamed, which I think was the reaction of a lot of people. It was the right ending for them because Carol and Doug were meant to be together.” Morning show the actress continued, adding that yes ambulance was “responsible” for her and Clooney’s career.

In the 2022 episode The Drew Barrymore ShowClooney admitted that he is still close to his family ambulance cast members.

“I guess it’s the friendship that I have with all of them and continue to have,” he told host Drew Barrymore at the time.

“I had [Anthony] Tony Edwards at the house in Italy three weeks ago — he and Mare came over,” the actor said, adding that he’s still “very close” to Margulies and Wyle, 53.

“They are really good friends,” he continued. “And that’s how I feel [show] was the work of a lifetime. And that changed my career.”

At the film’s premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, Clooney told PEOPLE what it’s like to work with Pitt, 60, again after previously appearing in films like Ocean’s trilogy i Burn after reading together.

“From the moment we got there, it was a no-brainer to do it again,” Clooney said. “What’s fun is that all the dialogue where we talked over each other was pretty simple because it was fun.”

Wolves is in theaters on September 20. The film will begin streaming on Apple TV+ on September 27. ambulance is available to stream on Hulu.
