Gillon Mclachlan’s career
McLachlan grew up on the Rosebank family farm in Mount Pleasant, South Australia. His parents are Sylvia and Angus, a former first-class cricketer. The other three brothers are named Hamish, Will, and Banjo. He is the oldest of four. The long-time Chairman of the South Australian Cricket Association (until 2014) and Australian Government Minister for Defense was his uncle Ian McLachlan.
McLachlan appeared in the Colts division of the Hills Football League while playing Australian Rules Rules rules for the now-defunct Pleasant Valley club. After moving to Melbourne (VAFA), he played amateur football for the Melbourne University Blues. He managed the club from 1994 to 2003, was captain from 2000 to 2002, won the CW
McLeod Trophy for Best and Fairest in 2000, he was a committee member and was inducted into the club’s life membership in 2003. He was also a VAFA captain and regular representative. He was on the Carlton Football Club’s supplementary list from 1996 to 1997. McLachlan represented Victoria in the semi-finals and served as national team manager.
