He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980 and was later appointed as the secretary of the Pune-based Bharatiya Janata Party (BJYM). From 1982 to 1997, he served as the legal representative of the Pune Municipal Corporation. In 1986, he was appointed Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Pune Municipal Council; he held this position until 1987. In 1995, he was first elected as MP for Kasba Peth. He has since been elected to the seat four times, in 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. He was a member of the Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Corporation from 1996 to 1998 and he served as Chairman of the Maharashtra State Transport Authority from 1998 to 1999. In 2006, he became the president of the Pune Bharatiya Janata Party. From 2009 to 204, he served as the Chief Whip of the Bharatiya Janata Party Legislative Party in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. From 2010 to 2014, he served as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. From 2014 to 2019, he served as Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Drug Regulatory Authority, Government of Maharashtra. He also served as the Guardian Minister of the Pune district of Maharashtra from December 2014 to June 4, 2019. He was elected as Pune MP in the 2019 general elections.

Criticized for sharing nighttime porn habit with students
In 2015, Girish Bapat came under public scrutiny after indirectly admitting that he had shown pornography to students during a rally in Pune. At the student assembly, he went on to say:

Bapat’s remarks have caused great embarrassment to the BJP in Maharashtra. A law student named Yogesh Kamte filed a police complaint under IPC Section 294 against Bapat for allegedly making “obscene” remarks in a public place, but the police did not acknowledge the complaint. NCP leader Vandana Chavan lashed out at Bapat, calling his remarks “uneducated and irresponsible”, while NCP activists staged a silent demonstration in front of Bapat’s house. Later, Bapat tried to downplay the controversy in front of the media, saying:

The photo was clicked by an unidentified person during a rally held by the BJP in Vagoli, Pune. Many netizens posted objectionable comments on the viral photo, defaming the woman’s character. Therefore, the 34-year-old woman lodged a police complaint and registered a case against the unidentified person who clicked her photos with Bapat. In her statement to the police, the woman said Bapat, who was like a father to her, held her hand, pulled her to the front and introduced her to CM Devendra Fadnavis.
Maple Tree Shelter Group Arrangement
In 2016, a real estate group called Maple Group put up advertising banners in Pune featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Devendra Fadnavis and The picture of Girish Bapat gives the impression that this is a government-sponsored scheme under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY). Following this, Shivajinagar police station registered a case against Maple Group for fraudulent advertising. Amid the controversy, Bapat was linked to Agrawal after a photo of him attending a public event together surfaced on social media.

Bapat, however, denied any links with Agrawal and said he was unaware of his presence at the event. According to sources, when police reached the event venue, Agrawal fled on a motorcycle.
Being trolled for ignorant tweets
In 2019, Bapat committed a Twitter faux pas in which he congratulated DRDO scientists for shooting down a satellite “that was spying on India”. He tweeted in Marathi:
India used an anti-satellite missile in outer space to successfully shoot down a live satellite that was monitoring India 300 kilometers away from the earth.
What actually happened was that the Defense Research and Development Organization shot down one of its own low-orbiting satellites while testing an anti-satellite missile. Bapat’s ignorant tweet gained widespread attention on the internet and he later deleted it.
Beed found guilty of restoring license of blacklisted affordable store
In 2019, the Bombay High Court had lashed out at Bapat for reinstating the license of a blacklisted affordable store owned by Vibhishan Mane in Beed, Maharashtra, which had been banned by the district supply officer in November 2015. (DSO) Cancellation. Furthermore, Justice Ghuge noted that this was the third case before the court in which he was accused of passing such unsustainable orders. After local villagers reported multiple violations at Vibhishan Mane’s shop, the DSO revoked his business license.
