Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner Announces He and New Fiancée Will Tie the Knot in a Live, Televised Ceremony

For golden bachelor Gerry Turner, forever with his fiancee Theresa Nist can’t start soon enough.

The couple who got engaged during Thursday The Golden Bachelor finale, announced during After the Final Rose that they will say “I do” in front of a live audience during the ABC wedding special on January 4th.

“We’re going to get married, we’re going to do it as quickly as possible because at our age we don’t have much time to waste,” Gerry said. “As soon as we can get the wedding plan together, we’ll get married!”

“Save the date: Gerry and Theresa are getting married and guess what, we’re invited to the wedding because it’s going to be live on ABC on January 4,” host Jesse Palmer said at the time. “How about that? It’s so exciting!”

The news comes after Gerry, 72, sent finalist Leslie Fhim home before proposal day and popped the question to Theresa, 70. Gerry told both ladies during Fantasy Suites that he loved them, but ultimately felt that he had a stronger connection with Theresa.

“Towards the end, I was really conflicted about a couple of women,” Turner previously told PEOPLE. “Because there were very specific events that happened, it really helped me clarify what I wanted to do.”

The retired restaurateur said “there were very specific characteristics I was looking for” going into his season, and he quickly realized when a woman possessed those characteristics.

“I met some of the women and recognized that they were beautiful, graceful and intelligent, but they weren’t the right woman for me,” Gerry said. “I had to find the right person.”

And he did in Teresa. He proposed to the financial services professional in the presence of his two daughters and granddaughter during Thursday’s finale.

“I am so madly in love with you, Gerry, and I feel that life is not over for us, the best is yet to come,” Theresa told Gerry on the day of the proposal.

Gerry told Theresa he loved her “1000%” and got down on one knee to ask her to marry him. Of course she said yes.
