Grayson and his brother Ethan became famous in 2013 through a video sharing app called Vine. They have over 6.4 million followers on Vine. In March 2014, Grayson and his brother Ethan created their YouTube channel under the name “Dolan Twins”. The first video they uploaded was “The Blender Challenge” in June 2015.
Their YouTube channel has over 11.1 million followers.
In 2015, they moved to Los Angeles after signing with the William Morris Endeavor agency. On March 27, 2018, Grayson and Ethan announced that they were taking a break from YouTube via a video on their channel titled “Bye For Now”. In the video, they talked about how their work had changed over time and that they wanted to explore themselves creatively. On May 1, 2018, they announced their return. In June 2018, twins James Charles (YouTuber) and Emma Chamberlain (YouTuber) formed a group on YouTube called “Sister Squad”. The squad uploaded their own videos on their channel and were featured prominently in the 2018 YouTube Rewind.

On October 8, 2019, they uploaded a 60-minute video titled “It’s time to move on…” in which they (Grayson and Dolan) explained the stress that came with the death of their father. In the video, they also announced plans to change the content of the channel and create a more flexible schedule.

In 2017, MTV’s reboot of Total Request Live (TV show) featured the Dolan Twins (Ethan and Grayson) as its correspondents for live hosting duties.

- In 2018, many of their (Grayson and Ethan) fans of color shared their experiences of receiving racist comments from other fans and asked the Dolan twins to address the issue. After the news reached them, Ethan tweeted that they were all the same. Ethan’s response disappointed fans and they called them out because they (the fans) felt that he was not addressing the issue directly but was avoiding it. After the backlash, Ethan tweeted that they do not tolerate racism and that he is not avoiding the issue. He also said that anyone who discriminates against others based on the color of their skin, ethnicity, or race should unfollow him.
- In 2020, some of the Dolan twins’ fans started trending the hashtag #DolanTwinsAreOverParty after an old video of them appeared to use homophobic language surfaced online. In an old YouTube video, Grayson and Ethan discussed the bullying they experienced in high school. Grayson recalled things people posted about him online, which also included homophobic slurs. Grayson received a lot of backlash after people took a short clip from the video of Grayson saying homophobic slurs and circulated it online.

- Although Ethan and Grayson are twins, Grayson is 20 minutes younger than Ethan.
- He was also known as “Gray” among his friends and family.
